Custer State Park Bison at Wind Cave National Park Rapid Creek, Black Hills Nat’l Forest Bear Butte State Park

Completed 130 miles in South Dakota this week on the Centennial Trail thru Black Hills Nat’l Forest and numerous state parks. Bison, pronghorns, prairie dogs, snakes, hawks, and an endless landscape of Ponderosa Pine and Prairie. Incredible skies, enchanting forests. 10/10 recommend. #GoOutside

I’ve spent no less than 100 nights in it. I love it.

I’ve done over 2,000 miles of solo wilderness hikes. I typically do one 250-400 mile solo hike annually. This year’s is abbreviated.

In general, I agree. But I have been doing this for years and so far, publishing this the day before I walk off into the wilderness hasn’t yielded any issues. If someone really wants to track me down I suppose they could. They’ll have to keep up though - I’m fast on the trail.

I’m going this one is tame. My September hikes are usually 250-400 miles. I cut this back and did a rolling landscape. Love your pics of Pictured Rocks. Rust belt kids know where the fun is. 👊🏼

Canoe view of North Tea Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada Standing at sunset in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada Camping on “Pistachio Island” (I named it that for a small squirrel who I named that because he stole one of my pistachios). Sunset in North Tea Lake

Have you ever sat in total silence and just absorbed the whispers of the natural world? I highly recommend canoeing the Tea Lakes of Algonquin Prov. Park in Ontario. The inner peace we often lose in our lives is waiting for you, wrapped up in sunset-colored ribbon. #GoOutside

John hiking in the Arizona desert.

Hi Everyone. I’m on a restorative hike in the desert these next few days but I’m preparing to make this space my new online home for discussions on sustainability, transportation, conservation, and mental wellness. #GoOutside today - bring a friend! 🌵

New episode up! We rode the bike lanes of Emeryville, California, with the city's mayor, John Bauters. He told us what elected officials really need to build an active transportation network: "I think political will is probably the biggest barrier." thewaroncars.org/2023/11/07/1...
