For anyone who has followed Lebanese politics, We will hopefully look back at these past few days and President & PM selection as ushering a new era for Lebanon. Lots of challenges ahead for these two, but for once in a long time you have two very competent and thoughtful leaders at the realm.

Aoun pledged that weapons will solely be in the hands of the state, after presidents for years called for an ambiguous coexistence w/Hezbollah’s military apparatus
2 years and 2 month later - Lebanon finally elected a president. Good first speech, the challenge will be in implementation of the necessary governance, judicial, and economic reforms.

One of the skills you develop after reading thousands on thousands of diplomatic documents is realizing when someone is delicately conveying an intense dislike of someone. In this case I do not think you actually need that skill.
