For their final written assignment, I asked my students to reflect on the results of the 2024 election; on what the results say to them about the state of American politics and the electorate, overall. But most importantly, I asked them to tell me about one thing that gives them hope for the future.

Side note: if you’re not following Memo (and his work), you should.

The final substantive session of our politics of borders seminar today centered around @memomiller.bsky.social’s book, Build Bridges, Not Walls (2021). At the end of a particularly difficult and emotional semester, we found hope (promise, even) in imagining a different future, and asking, “what if?”

Thirteen years later, I’m still running to my grad advisor to cry. Something about old habits.

Your undocumented students need your care and support right now. And if you’re saying to yourself, “I don’t have any undocumented students,” think a-fucking-gain.

Just gonna say this: if your starter pack cover appears to feature only white men, you may be part of the problem.
