I promise she isn't a Yordle, but it was too late to change by the time i'd rendered her out. Thumbnail sketch for context.

It lost a ton of character, flavour. And Archetypal appeal. Reading about Sylvania for 10 minutes would be enough to give anyone the idea of what the Vampire counts were about. And it was satisfying to dig deeper into the lore. I genuinely don't know what the narrative is in AoS
100%, one of the things that shifted my perspective dramatically is that the quality of a design isn't directly tied to the quality of the execution. Del Toro is not the most technically amazing artist but his designs are phenomenal. But his sketchbooks are brilliant communication tools.
Studies always worked for me, and if you can't find a mentor - have you considered joining a community for it?

You do a great job at making everything feel organic and natural.
I suppose the crux of what we disagree on comes down to that. I don't view it as harmful in the way that you do, but my original point was only that artists should decide for themselves what works for them. I'm sorry for any frustration you feel. Love your art and good luck. π
But I do get your point in that I feel that I can't support every artist that i want to because if I did, I'd not have anything left for myself. So I either buy comms or tip through kofi.
I'm an absolutist in that people should 100% make the art that they want to see in the world, and express what they want.
But also that they can then do what they like with it. I don't think there's malice in that. 1/2
Having said that, I agree with you in that there's probably a better way to do it than 'locking' art / variations behind a pay wall. And it's not something I'd ever do. It just seems to be an effective model for artists to make money from their work.
Hey, peace and love.
We're all trying to make it, and it's tough. I try not to frame it like the artist is adjudicating who's worthy of their art, but what approach / choice works for them. People are artists for very different reasons, so it's hard for me to make a broad judgement.
Seems like a catch 22. I've always favoured PWYW methods when it comes to supporting artists. Though artists (and creatives in general) should have the agency to curate and sell their work in a way that suits their situation. Whether that's sharing it with the world, or no one at all.
Great stuff, I'll keep an eye out.
