Kinger needs Caine to assure that he is still what he was before , all the memories they made all along someone who remembers kinger and Queenie .

While Caine needs Kinger to tell him where he lacks , if he is doing the right thing for his objective, make him understand these emotions.

Their relationship gets intimate and all but it's more in an unhealthy way.
Caine fails to understand emotions properly almost treating kinger like a precious possession same with kinger but with gentle approach.

Hehe so kinger sees Caine as his final connection to his past after his wife's gone while Caine sees Kinger as his worth??. If kinger abstracts that means Caine failed . Caine made kinger crazy because he thinks emotions are complex and brings abstraction, they both depend on each other for sanity
