Thanks to Ember for some unpublished data, I made this chart showing the massive shift away from gas-linked power prices in Spain, relative to the increasingly gas-reliant market in Italy
No wonder Italy wants to tackle high power prices!

There's been amazing Indian food in British towns for decades of course, it's just exciting to me that it reached relatively remote villages. Maybe by the same token, there is hope for the Midwest.
This has also happened along the A9 in the UK (basically the only road across the Scottish Highlands) except they've been around a bit longer and now have restaurants. You can get a killer biryani in villages with names like Dalnaspidal and Boat of Garten. It's brilliant.
people joke about what experiencing even the banalities of modern society would do to a medieval peasant, but here's a German tourist from a small farming village who says some Times Square salsa verde physically incapacitated him gothamist.com/food/theres-...
Poor fella, as a Brit I had a similar but opposite experience with spicy salsa when I moved to California, where I was like "Why have they been keeping this wonderfulness from us?" and made a point of learning how to make it myself.
Like there's a certain mindset in which engineering is top, then product, design, law/finance/bizdev/sales, recruiting, 100 feet of rubble, then writing, more rubble, then HR. The rubble people have no real skillset therefore any impact they have is mismeasurement, coincidence, or act of God.
Also you should LISTEN TO THEM about why they do it they way they always did it, because (gasp) the reason might not be 100% stupid. There even might be wisdom in there.
Same disease caused that engineer to claim LaMDA was sentient 4y ago. It wasn't (obviously), it just had a team of really good writers, many of whom had worked in movies/theater/journalism etc. But if you don't get that writing is a skill, you could mistake the output for magic.
Roy Cooper's ahead by a lot in the internals is he
Also Slotkin was in the "disobey illegal orders" video, even if she were not quite where one might wish on policy, she's there on the "fight fire with fire" part.
OK but if Sherman had been a Teletubby he would have been even scarier
California BETTER be next!
Virginia will become the second state to allow households to install do-it-yourself, balcony solar panels, joining Utah. My question: Will California be next? www.canarymedia.com/articles/sol...
Reminds me of the "darker ink" bit from Hidden Figures LOL
Surely anyone who loves ancient Rome as much as they do is fluent in Latin 😉
Good news for all the US tourists out there in the world that they've heard of "the brave ones from Minnesota".
I hope the squid are opening some of these doors.
But for real yes, my climate community from Google was the reason I get to do the incredibly fun and interesting work I do now!
10/10 naming game, well played
Yes it's honestly impressive how many things they are wrong about.
It's nuts. Trump and is fans constantly make fun of Chris Christie and JB Pritzker for being bigger gentlemen too.
I hear she still likes [insert fandom] after [creator] was revealed to be problematic 🫣
What are the names of the 6 cats?
Yeah why can't they just commission something new and original from her? We would all be mad for joy over that!
Oh. I am glad I know that now, so thanks. But I sure did like not knowing it.
Passover is soon.
During the Seder service, as the names of the Ten Plagues are read out, you ceremonially spill a drop of wine for each. It symbolizes how the deaths of Egyptians - innocents or slavedrivers - reduce our cup of joy. Even bad guys' deaths are cause for grief.
Just, FYI.

Aw, bet you didn't think they'd be useful again, that must be so, uh... validating 🫤
What sorts of actions (or inactions) would this justify by any troops in theater? Put down weapons and sit there? Go but "disobey" by giving quarter where appropriate? Ask for RoE clarification? Seems like they are put in a horrible position.
✋ Former USG war crimes lawyer here.
Apropos of SecDef's remarks this morning:
Denial of quarter—even the declaration of no quarter—is a war crime.
And recognized as such by the US Government.
From DoD's Manual for Military Commissions.
Wow. It's beautiful how humans will always find a way to create even in the darkest times.
To paraphrase Sir James Mathew,
"The Strait of Hormuz, like the Ritz Hotel, is open to everyone."
