Instagram has started to show me all the Influencers doing videos eating their promotional boxes of Oreo's new Reese's flavored cookies, and I am unhealthily envious. Usually, that stuff doesn't affect me, but they look REALLY good.

Those are fine because it's a new story with its own lore (even though its shared) and character motivations.

This might be a hot take, but I don't think you should need a comic book tie-in the purpose of which is explaining your movie's lore and character's motivation. That's what the movie is for.
