you can make a solid case for the how solidly "liberal" the democrats are based soley on how the party has committed to anti-communism over human rights since basically the second WW2 ended.

there's a reason communists still are highly critical of liberalism and that we tend to have fundamental disagreements with american self-described liberals. the concepts are diff but not significantly. we're better off getting progressives to break from liberals than begging dems to play ball w soc

*my* point is that imo american liberalism still falls pretty squarely within the global umbrella of liberalism--if anything, its a smaller and marginally progressive-leaning slice of it.

i dont walk around my neighborhood correcting people. but i think that until the american definition of liberal is firmly demsoc the distinction is ideologically significant, and applies to a large part of the ideological fight that is currently being lost

american liberalism has deep roots in what the rest of world calls liberalism. it would be pedantic if the shoe didn't fit. behind most self described liberals. is still a commitment, if cynical and unimaginative, to capitalism above common sense. and the individualist theories of change.

liberals' refusal to acknowledge the embedded capitalism in the ideology is one of the main reasons the dems have failed to neutralize fascism--the economic kernel of how liberals and fascists wish to organize society is very very similar

actually capitalism is a deeply liberal way of organizing economies. liberalism is a capitalist ideology. they are very intertwined. i recommend reading some definitions.
