I knew I'd never earn out. I knew I would never get another deal like this. I knew those numbers would follow me around forever, and I didn't hesitate. A Thousand Nights was my "sell out" book. But I sold it for enough that I got to keep its soul. I've never done that again.

I paid off my student loans. I bought a car. I moved into an apartment that wasn't full of mice. I was able to take six months off after my spine surgery and not worry about anything but getting better.

It's my weirdest book. I've never written anything else like it, not even its own sequel. There was an eight house auction. I was eating soda crackers in bed because I was in too much pain to sit. And then Disney gave me $200,000 for it.

anyway if you get an email from "authorekjohnston@gmail.com" it's a scammer. i hope they step on a lego at random times for the rest of their life.
