Why do we allow US bases here? Why do we allow these social media companies to to operate here? What will it take for Europe to really wake up to the situation?
But no one did anything - a bit like with the climate change. We are already past the point where there’s no going back. We are headed towards a disaster. The relevant question is, what will be the extent of the disaster.
Long ago we should have made drastic decisions regarding how social media and alternative media are allowed to operate. These unconstrained platforms are probably the main reason why we are in this mess and it won’t get any easier with the AI nonsense.
Unless we urgently do something about the information space that fuels the divisive and ego-centric far-right rhetoric, we can pretty much forget about a sustainable European effort against the US and Russia. The result will be Europe against itself.

The way I see it, there’s nothing new in the US implementing its Monroe doctrine in the Americas. The US has always used force to get what it wants. What’s new is that now other countries have started to want the same privileges. The rules-based international order is just a fairytale.
