It feels lazy and not inclusive, which I don't love, but even more importantly it's also leading to a sub-par result for the maker.

Yeah, ok, I am grumpy and demanding but I really try not to make it personal or directed at a specific individual.

Resisting the urge to shit-talk someone who has been shit-talking me. I guess that's being an adult.

Math for Knitters Book Review Math for Knitters by Kate Atherley 180 pages Spoiler Alert! This book is not a beautiful book of patterns. It’s not going to take you on a scenic trip to Ireland, Scandinavia, the Andes or any other k...

This is a good summary of my Math for Knitters book... knotions.com/kate-atherle...

Actually, no! That's not really what Math for Knitters is about. My Custom Socks book covers sock grading.

21.11.2025 23:25 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Exactly! It's common in older patterns and I do think people believe this means it's ok. I do NOT. (I mean, I wrote a book about this... )

Single-size patterns make me extremely annoyed.

I really don't think "change needle to change sizes" is best practice for grading. You're asking the knitter to potentially compromise the quality of the fabric by knitting too loose and/or create issues with it by working it too tight. It is 100% possible to grade colourwork mitts & socks. 🧢

Chock-a-Block: Tips on Blocking Handknits – Modern Daily Knitting

Well, the confusion is around what the word "block" means. Washing *is* blocking. So yes, you always need to block, but that doesn't necessarily mean stretching and pinning!

Since the person isn't on BlueSky, I will offer it here: surprisingly few knits actually need pinning out to dry, and stretching and pinning out that hat is ruining the lovely bouncy ribbing.

I know it's absolutely the worst thing to do, to offer unsolicited advice. I hate when people do it to me, I really try to avoid doing it to others. But ooooh boy when you see someone doing something that is making both their lives and their knitting worse, it can be really hard to stay quiet.

Ah yes I could see that. We do love your cards, thank you. My brother Tony of Glossop sends them regularly.

We do get to enjoy Gail's cards thanks to Tony - there's one on the piano right now. But yes coasters would be excellent.

Test Knitting and Why it's Becoming a Problem - KateAtherley.com

The pattern testing discourse is popping up again on Threads. Ugh. I wrote about it here... kateatherley.com/testing-knit...

This would explain why I get so few responses.

(It was from a brand that usually fit well so was not as diligent in trying it on and assessing fit. Lesson learned.)

Today in maturity: I have had this bra for 10+ years. It was a bad fit, straight up. Band too small, straps too long. As my body changed with age the issue got worse. But it was $$$, so I held onto it and tried to wear it from time to time. I finally gave myself permission to get rid of it.
