It feels lazy and not inclusive, which I don't love, but even more importantly it's also leading to a sub-par result for the maker.

22.11.2025 03:21 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, ok, I am grumpy and demanding but I really try not to make it personal or directed at a specific individual.

22.11.2025 03:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Resisting the urge to shit-talk someone who has been shit-talking me. I guess that's being an adult.
22.11.2025 03:08 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0This is a good summary of my Math for Knitters book... knotions.com/kate-atherle...
21.11.2025 23:26 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Actually, no! That's not really what Math for Knitters is about. My Custom Socks book covers sock grading.
21.11.2025 23:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Exactly! It's common in older patterns and I do think people believe this means it's ok. I do NOT. (I mean, I wrote a book about this... )
21.11.2025 23:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Single-size patterns make me extremely annoyed.
21.11.2025 21:35 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I really don't think "change needle to change sizes" is best practice for grading. You're asking the knitter to potentially compromise the quality of the fabric by knitting too loose and/or create issues with it by working it too tight. It is 100% possible to grade colourwork mitts & socks. π§Ά
21.11.2025 21:35 β π 43 π 1 π¬ 3 π 1Well, the confusion is around what the word "block" means. Washing *is* blocking. So yes, you always need to block, but that doesn't necessarily mean stretching and pinning!
21.11.2025 15:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Since the person isn't on BlueSky, I will offer it here: surprisingly few knits actually need pinning out to dry, and stretching and pinning out that hat is ruining the lovely bouncy ribbing.
21.11.2025 13:57 β π 20 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I know it's absolutely the worst thing to do, to offer unsolicited advice. I hate when people do it to me, I really try to avoid doing it to others. But ooooh boy when you see someone doing something that is making both their lives and their knitting worse, it can be really hard to stay quiet.
21.11.2025 13:55 β π 15 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah yes I could see that. We do love your cards, thank you. My brother Tony of Glossop sends them regularly.
21.11.2025 13:04 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We do get to enjoy Gail's cards thanks to Tony - there's one on the piano right now. But yes coasters would be excellent.
21.11.2025 12:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I second that request (also hoping I qualify as one of those overseas friends... π).
21.11.2025 12:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Everybody should do this as now as possible.
20.11.2025 21:01 β π 19 π 9 π¬ 7 π 0Oh yay! ::nervously:: I hope you like it!
19.11.2025 18:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The pattern testing discourse is popping up again on Threads. Ugh. I wrote about it here... kateatherley.com/testing-knit...
19.11.2025 14:17 β π 21 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0This would explain why I get so few responses.
(Psst! Do you have job? I need job!)
(It was from a brand that usually fit well so was not as diligent in trying it on and assessing fit. Lesson learned.)
19.11.2025 03:05 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Today in maturity: I have had this bra for 10+ years. It was a bad fit, straight up. Band too small, straps too long. As my body changed with age the issue got worse. But it was $$$, so I held onto it and tried to wear it from time to time. I finally gave myself permission to get rid of it.
