A6 Allies are willing to remind us to rest. It is a synergy where your willingness to engage requires their love and care, too. Allies will remind you to "sit this one out." The current movement for Black people to rest while our allies take up these current moments is love. #literacies

I often find solace in the scholarship of Black, Latinx, and Asian scholars, authors. I want my students to read their work. What do I offer in building pedagogical allyship? Perhaps my experiences and resources? Not exactly sure? #literacies

A6: Uninterrupted time and a clean workspace are definitely my allies (which is why I’m not looking forward to district PD tomorrow…). My other allies include my peers in my doc program, my coworkers, and my fellow members of the #literacies SIG!

A5: Allies are actions is my standard way of thinking. They way we say things or mean to say things can get lost. Our actions and deeds are our evidences of allyship #literacies.

So many allies, near and far, university and k-12. I rely on them to know the world better. And I use the power I have—tenured, full prof, middle aged white lady—to support each of them in ways they need. Especially classroom teachers. I tell them my letters should be good for something. #literacies

A6: I have allies who push me to see beyond my worldview shaped by my whiteness. I'm grateful to grow with mentors and friends. Good allies know learning is growth. May this space inspire new allies for us all! #literacies

A4 sure the teacher exists. Start in the inverse...have students explore stats and the questions raised that generate statics that skew toward deficit perspectives. Gloria Ladson-Billings Achievement Debt helps us see this. #literacies

A4: Consider interdisciplinary project where you students learn ideas and concepts within ELA and then invite your colleagues to offer ways you could reinforce math learning in YOUR lesson. They will find the connection, and BOOM- Got em. #literacies

A5 cont: Really importantly, I also tells kids to assume positive intent from others. This helps them try to understand someone's perspective from a more understanding POV #literacies

I’m going to be using court cases—beyond Brown v Board—to frame discussions of race and education my Foundations course. I’m going to use excerpts from racial diverse curriculum theorists in my advanced class. Pondering a Dubois versus Carver discussion too. #literaciex

A4 The challenge is that teachers who want to work in formulas and math facts need support. What is the census? How is it used to count people? How do race and class change how the census is used? Then engage in real-life data to explore these. #literacies

A5 2/2: I have students (who are largely white women) engage in this process of analysis of reading and then reflection on how the readings are salient to their own lives and experiences—and the experiences of others unlike them. How will this information impact their actions? #literacies

A5 1/2: In the graduate course I assist with, I try to provide scholarly readings and materials, especially centering the voices of Black and other People of Color which catalyze discussion and critical thinking on racial #literacies

A5: I love a human barometer where students are allowed to change their minds. So if I give the statement “all political leaders work toward the benefit of all citizens” & someone agrees but another viscerally disagrees, we discuss & Ss are allowed to move. There’s space to learn & grow #literacies

A4 Being defunded is disturbing and disappointing while also revealing a great compliment. Push forward. #literacies

A4 I had a math teacher develop all of her word problems based on race history facts. "How many years after the signing of the Emancipation Pro were Black people able to vote?" #literacies

Q4 Admittedly, this is one of my favorite questions, and I am born and raised as an ELA/SS human. LOL #literacies.

A4: This is a great question!!! As someone who has really only teaches ELA and taught ELA & SS preservice teachers, I’m eager to hear people’s answers to this one. #literacies

I want to find a stats teacher to work with and design units where students study how stats have been used to conceal racial inequity and reveal it. Does that teacher exist? #literacies

Q5: What teaching methods do you consider when seeking to create space for discussions of race in your instructional goals? What do you do? How are these methods pathways for critical thinking or idea generation? #literacies
