Transparency, Accountability, and the Responsibility to Speak Honestly – Troy Headrick

An ethics complaint was filed against me in response to my critique of VT’s Abenaki recognition process. The House Ethics Panel closed it without a hearing. No wrongdoing.
I’m sharing all docs and discuss why these weaponized tactics matter as City Council debates what replaces the Graylock statue.

H.355 and the Question Vermonters Are Asking Right Now – Troy Headrick

Who decides when our National Guard is deployed?

In light of recent National Guard deployments and growing questions about how those decisions are made, I’ve written a blog post explaining H.355 — a bill I introduced to add transparency and accountability to the federalization process.

Exporting Incarcerated Vermonters: The Quiet Return of a Failed Strategy – Troy Headrick

Vermont just shipped two more bus loads of incarcerated men to a for-profit prison in Mississippi. Governor Scott and his lead counsel are now calling prison a place for “healing”. This is a dangerous shift and it’s no accident. More detailed thoughts:

Grateful to CBC Radio for their continued commitment to discussion on the appropriation of Abenaki identity by Vermont groups. I'm still equally committed to convincing my legislative colleagues to spend time understanding the mistakes our predecessors made in granting state recognition.

Plans to replace Burlington monument bring controversy over state-recognized tribes to Queen City leaders - VTDigger The Abenaki Nation at Missisquoi commissioned a new sculpture to replace a monument to a historic Abenaki chief, but the plan has drawn opposition from a state legislator in Burlington.

We must stop excluding the undisputed descendants of the original keepers of this land when we make decisions that impact them. The United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples is crystal clear on this.

Vermont man places 3rd in World Beard and Moustache Championships A moustachioed Vermont man competed at the world beard and moustache championships on Thursday.

What an amazing group of contenders! Looking forward to sitting back for the rest of the competition and enjoying the parade of majestic beards.

My immediate thoughts on the most monstrous, immoral piece of legislation I’ve ever voted on in the Senate.

But I’m not done fighting. I know you aren’t either.

A post by JD Vance . It says:

Everything else—the CBO score, the proper baseline, the minutiae of the Medicaid policy—is immaterial compared to the ICE money and immigration enforcement provisions.

Rarely has MAGA policy been so clearly articulated.

Denying sick Americans healthcare doesn’t matter as long as their masked, racist security force gets funding - By Order of the Vice President.

The National Park Service is already underfunded and understaffed. To put its budget on the chopping block as we continue to see a rise in visitors at parks across the county is reckless and thoughtless.

It's the worst idea for "America's Best Idea."

H. 355 has not moved from the committee wall. The administration is currently waging an unconstitutional war without the approval of Congress. Trump has already shown his willingness to abuse the process fie federalizing the Guard. H. 355 provides a much needed check in that abuse. Vermont can lead.

The continued overuse and abuse of the National Guard, from unconstitutional deployments into war zones, extraneous deployments like DC following the January 6th riot & recently to CA, and all-around poor treatment in housing and care, is becoming commonplace.

‘Take a look at what’s happened in Vermont’: Challenges to state’s tribal recognition process loomed over Maine legislative debate this year - VTDigger The proposal in Maine, which would have created a state-level recognition process there, was one of several bills related to tribal identity that lawmakers across northern New England considered in re...

Maine and New Hampshire both look to Vermont as an example of what NOT to do with regard to a state recognition process for self-identified Abenaki. #vtpoli

All this means is that these kids will remain in makeshift FEMA trailers that are already beyond their use ability or on an air mattress in hastily put together spaces in various law enforcement facilities. NIMBYism will prevent care of our youth. #vtpoli

There will be some that applaud the failure to comply with the extensive list of requirements Vergennes gave to approve some minor zoning changes that would have allowed the state to build a new facility for justice involved youth on land already owned by the state. This is a hortsighted. 🧵 1/2

And Rep. Cordes wasn’t in a position to keep the seat. Sounds like you two might have some common ground. We’re part time legislators with full time responsibilities outside the state house. Living circumstances change regularly, especially in the current environment.
