But also, NOT ENTIRELY FOR SCIENCE
11.12.2025 17:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0oh no. i just found a medicinal leech site, too. the seed has been planted.

11.12.2025 17:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0hahaha, @drfishsg.bsky.social suggested the same!
11.12.2025 17:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0oh my, that sounds terrible!! glad you survived it!
11.12.2025 17:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0ha, i did catch a tree branch to the head a while back and lost what felt like a good amount of blood! not nearly a pint though...

11.12.2025 16:51 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Then he blocked me.
Having a real morning on the internet!
Me: I can't donate blood. Is there a safe way to still get the forever chemical removal benefit?
Some guy: YOU SHOULDN'T DONATE TAINTED BLOOD
Me: I can't & don't donate my blood anymore. But also, all blood is tainted.
Guy: YOU SHOULDN'T DONATE TAINTED BLOOD
Me: I.. don't?
Guy: YOU SHOULDN'T..
Do you know if they currently remove PFAS from donated blood/plasma before giving to recipients?
11.12.2025 16:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0All of which is irrelevant, because virtually all blood (and plasma) donated is going to have forever chemicals in it. It's already there. Without me donating (which again, I am not doing).
11.12.2025 16:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Kyle, I don't know you, and I don't know what's going on in your life, but you seem to be looking for the most bad-faith reading of this conversation possible.
I can't donate blood (or plasma!) because of a medication. There is no burden for someone else.
By the way, @lynnepeeps.bsky.social has a whole book about this kind of stuff, and it will absolutely change the way you think about caffeine, screens, the sun, and our evolution and relationship to it! ๐งช

Feeling the need to clarify that I'm not going to start draining my own blood because of something I saw on the internet. (Like, I'm into "health stuff", but not... you know.)
But if there's already an accepted, medically and ethically safe way to get this benefit, it seems worth asking!
ah, I see, but I think you're making several leaps here.
1. I was a very good donor until I was prohibited.
2. Now that I'm prohibited, I don't donate.
3. Getting rid of f. chemicals isn't the goal, it's the byproduct
4. I'm now asking how to get the benefit w/out endangering recipient
Interesting! I'd never heard of that. Though I don't think I can get a prescription for that (assuming you need a prescription for that)

11.12.2025 15:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0hahaha, yeah. alas!
it's definitely also going to the recipient. but we all have forever chemicals. and the recipient has bigger problems, or they wouldn't need your blood. (the recipient also already has forever chemicals.)
but if i could siphon off a little blood and dump it... net positive?
Recipient safety!
11.12.2025 15:10 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hmm, I wonder if the same restrictions apply to plasma donation though? Iโd have to assume they do

11.12.2025 14:44 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Day dream question for the ๐งช hive โ
Donating blood is one of the best (only?) ways for the body to get rid of forever chemicals.
But one of the medications Iโm on notes prohibits me from donating.
So, uh, how can I get rid of some of my blood? Safely, preferably.

Marvel's Ironheart miniseries actually tackles this question in a pretty heartfelt way, I think.
