Research customer service. Research time management and organization. Learn how to communicate with clients and stay on top of your tasks.
Not only will you appear (and be) more professional, but you will showcase trust to get, not just new, but also /returning/ clients.
Being able to draw and sell your products/services is one thing, but that doesn't mean we have an understanding of how to handle communicating with our customers and clients.
I've seen a lot of drama over the years of clients and artists having poor experiences, in large part because of this.
As independent artists who are trying to make a business on selling our products/services, I think we understand to research about marketing/production, but are often missing arguably the most important thing: customer service.
If you want to make it long term, you NEED client communication skills.

It's a bad omen from the get-go. If they can't communicate about MONEY, how are you supposed to trust them to communicate with the rest of the job?
And if an artist wants return clients (which I would imagine most would), this would be the worst outcome. Not to mention it sours the piece the artist made for your client. Even if you like it, you can be reminded of that bad experience whenever you look at it. Oof, sorry that happened to you!
Apart from being against Paypal's TOS (which is red flags for me), and that fees should be worked into their prices, they should've mentioned any potential additional fees to their clients PRIOR to invoicing.
I even review shipping fees for things clients KNOW will be shipped prior to invoicing.

These legit took SO MUCH time and effort. I hand made all the findings to attach the pale beads, which was a new experience for me. But I think they came out so pretty!
