The Supremes "Let Yourself Go" (1976)
A very underrated product of the Motown studio machine, this fiery high-energy track never got the proper extended #disco #remix it deserved. Slick, charismatic and powerful, it remains one of the group's best. 🎶

My pocket-sized review of
INLAND EMPIRE;
This film (INLAND EMPIRE) was a real trip, blurring the lines between the real and the imagined. It’s not an easy watch at all and it laments at length the effect that Hollywood can have on an actor. Nothing as trite as marks out of ten here. This was fierce acid. It’s more art than box office.

27.01.2025 15:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I’m halfway through this on my David Lynch odyssey. I’m giving myself a couple of months to watch all his major work. Including Twin Peaks 1-3. Hence two months.

The Rimshots "Super Disco" (1975)
This gritty #funk energy! It's what gave #disco its #groove, and often came from many lesser-known acts with so much #soul. Prime example of material you'll seldom find on today's bland, sanitized streaming services

I know this because he wrote his name all over it. Never officially told me what I did wrong though. Left it up to me to guess, while fending off lots of Elon-a-like scammers.

Sting "If You Love Somebody (Set Them Free)" [Jellybean Mix] (1985)
Like a shining light, Sting's voice carries this song's timeless hook over an ace rhythm section featuring drummer Omar Hakim, Kenny Kirkland on keys and bassist Daryll Jones. 🎶

🐈⬛s from the man who worked on both Violator 🌹and
So Red The Rose 🌹.
Truly, “We’re not worthy!”
Very Anton Corbijn. ✔️
19.01.2025 08:43 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This album clearly wouldn’t be the masterwork that it is, without Flood (producer) and Francois Kevorkian (engineer).
In searching for reasons contributing to perfection here, it becomes readily apparent that it only exists in the form it does because of the absolute tessellation of all elements.

BOX 4
🎧 on today, and a detailed listen to the development of the sounds, mixing and production over the years.
Latterly, to bring in Flood and especially Francois Kevorkian was a genius move, as anyone who has heard his mixing on Kraftwerk's Techno Pop will know.
That there is my dream Mode production team—along with Alan Wilder of course.

If you’ve heard other Depeche Mode, then don’t think you know Violator. It’s 1,000 times over their most polished product. Total perfection.
I tried again with Black Celebration this morning. That’s like comparing a rough sketch with the Mona Lisa.
Perfection in recorded form.
(an occasional series)
35 years on it’s still their shining pinnacle.
If you’ve never heard it, you are missing out on one of the all-time greats.
🙄
(Music doesn’t record anything. I do talk tosh at times. The replaying of old bangers, (or floor-fillers) clearly tickles the neurons though, and can propel our consciousness swiftly back to the memory of the environment we best associate with them)
To find your own voice takes work, courage and persistence. Especially if your environment blocks you.
17.01.2025 08:38 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0On David Lynch;
One of the few truly original sets of eyes and ears in film. He actually made a contribution to the art, not just by recycling old themes & dialogue for a buck. Totally unconventional, but he brought that through into the everyday. I really hope he’s still questing somewhere. 💔
Rest In Peace, David Lynch. 💔

When I become a Crypto billionaire, I’ll swing some kind of purchase order on all the houses & have them all restored, as they’re now run down and that’s sad.
Mind you, they say you can never go back.😭
Currently reliving 1991, courtesy of the music I was into at the time. Music records moods and body states, I’m convinced of this. I feel young(ish).

I hate my first name with a passion. I always have. To pronounce it makes you sound like you’re having a mini-stroke. It’s a wretched name.
I was nearly a ‘Richard’, but that’s hardly any better. 😆
Is anyone out there blogging, in 2025? (spoiler alert: I still do)
