Canadians for EU Membership

Our relationship with the U.S. has never been a healthy one. On one hand we've done our best to be their best friend, while also secretly hoping that they don't hurt us. It's time to move in a different direction.

Meet the MEP who wants to bring Canada into the European Union Almost half of Canadians want to join the European Union and one German MEP is doing his best to make it possible. For him, geography is relative. #EuropeNews

Yes! Canada should join the European Union.

I had a productive call with Ursula von der Leyen this morning. We’re ready to build on our free trade relationship, bolster economic security, and work side-by-side on shared defence and security challenges.

When Canada and the European Union build together, our futures are stronger.

Canada should apply for full member status in the European Union Whereas: • Throughout Canada’s history the United States has always proven to be an unreliable and unpredictable ally and trade partner; • The United States has shown in recent years a greatly diminis...

We have a pro-EU PM now, it's time to start contemplating the next step. Together, with our friends in Europe we can become an Arctic / Resource superpower.

It's not like it's a waiting list. There are requirements to be met and each country is at a different point in being "ready". If all those countries were fully ready, they could be admitted tomorrow. Iceland has to have a referendum. Turkey has suspended their application etc.

Won't happen. The US is going to have problems of their own creation to deal with soon. They'll be too busy putting out internal fires to do anything in Greenland or Canada.

Not too substantial. There will be some but I was talking to a Brussels lawyer about it who said that Canada was as close to ready as any applicant since the EU originally formed. We would need to get rid of inter-provincial barriers and modify a few regulations, but nothing too massive.

Actually joining would take years of talks between Canada, the EU, the provinces & territories, indigenous groups and industry and then after all the talking was done, a referendum where I think we'd need a 60%? yes vote. I'd just like for them to start discussions & see what it would look like.

Hey Canada, if you have not done so yet please sign this petition and let our political leaders know that it's time to start discussing the very real possibility of EU membership

Great idea.

Canada and Europe share more vision and ideas about governing a country than Canada does with the USA.

And geopolitical it would make a very powerful coalition that wouldn't require many resources from outside.

No, I understand that. I just don't think there are any real conflicts between the EU and the Commonwealth (which is 90% social club in 2025).

If Canada applies, it won't be a fast process. Just inside Canada there are a massive number of stakeholders to consult - provinces, territories, Indigenous groups and a variety of industries and interest groups. That's why I'm only asking for them to start having the conversation. It would be long.

I suspect that this number would be higher if you asked the question again today.

As far as I know there is nothing about being in the Commonwealth that would prevent us from joining the EU or even be an obstacle to it.

We adjoin Denmark with Han’s Island so we are literally sharing a border with a EU Country why not go full out! I’d bet the EU would love our oil and gas instead of Russian energy!

There would be no issue, Canada is also a member of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie which includes France in its membership. The Commonwealth is just a different cooperative group with or without the UK.

Hey #Canada. You know that you are at least thinking about the possibility of the EU, but the petition asking government officials to start talks and see where they go has had more likes, shares and retweets than signatures - so if you could spare a few clicks ...

Canada is a neighbour of Denemark so can be a member of the European Union. 🇪🇺🇨🇦

Modest European here. I would safely say that every European would be glad to welcome Canada straight into the European Union. We don’t treat our allies as enemies, because they’re friends. There is no single Member in the Union that doesn’t want to be part of it. Believe it or not: even Hungary

My favourite outcome - now that Canada and Denmark share a sliver of a land border - is that we join the European Union. It'd have massive ramifications but it'd also be really really funny.

Plus technically, because of the settlement of the Whisky War we technically share a 1 km border with Denmark. Also, instead of looking at the globe head on - look at it from the top:
