if you make a bad historical analogy though, i get it's irritating when actual experts note your analogy was bad. but when I say some science fact wrong and a scientist points it out, it ain't the scientist at fault, even if sometimes they are kinda surly about it.

it does make me irritable to be tagged into threads where I can't reply, but then again, I'm irritable basically all the time these days. despite the hefty dose of wellbutrin. working on it, but it's not a work that ends.

as with so many other things, I just hope that 1) as people's lives get worse here, we successfully manage to persuade them (truthfully) that is the fault of Republicans and 2) if we retake power, we use that power to hold the criminals accountable and fix the systems that empowered them.

they have been waging terrorist attacks domestically for a long time. they have been in the military and influential. but now they run the place with zero guardrails. it ain't great.

the thing is ... medieval historians wrote about this when he was nominated, made no difference, was worth saying, but I don't know what else there is to say. there's a tranche of american christians devoted to violence against anyone they deem enemies. they belong to various denominations.

I suspect there are only 94,000 medievalists on bluesky but I haven't counted.

depending on how you define crusade there are other answers. always lots of negotiation around who would go where with what blessing.

(or at least, at some point during the crusade, people were excommunicated, etc.)

the fourth crusade and the sixth crusade took place in direct contravention to papal orders.
