Ahh but then you get the pure joy that is taking apart a simple old electronic and cleaning it up. It might just be a me thing, but there's something magical about rejuvenating an old piece of tech ^^
I genuinely doubt we'll get that again but fair.
It's more about the message. It just continues the "you'll own nothing and like it" vibe everything's been moving towards. It's the same force moving me off streaming services and back to MP3 files and DVDs.
They're a step over digital, but a very small one. What happens in 20 years when Nintendo has shut down the servers? The game cards will still work just fine by the key cards are now just pretty pieces of plastic.
It just feels like Nintendo pushing the envelope in a bad way...
I'm really happy child me didn't try to sell my old Gameboy or something. I'd give a lot to have some of my other old consoles and games as an adult...
Oh I 100% agree. I remember slam dunking a Gameboy cartridge in my Gameboy on the way home from Toys R Us as a kid and you just can't do that with GKCs. Plus if I bust out my old Gameboy right now, game's still there and still playable (tho I think my Pokemon Silver battery is flat...)
Stuff like the game key cards are why I hesitate to even bother with a Switch 2. I know even the full game cards are just a license with game files that can be rescinded, but it REALLY feels like you own nothing with the GKCs. I'll just go to the community and old games for my Pokemon hit for now...
