I'm genuinely reflecting on my approach. My reaction to your original post was unnecessary and unhelpful. I was being flippant and dismissive. It was a bitchy thing to do. Sorry for that. If I ever engage on bsky in the future, I'll temper my initial reaction and try to find common ground instead.

I think if I do engage on bluesky in the future, I'll need to go into each conversation believing that most people are expressing themselves because they care, first and foremost, and then I can see if there's common ground to start on rather than on assumptions. 🤔😅

I can respect that. I also will choose to keep fighting while I still can. I don't want paranoia to take hold of the narrative here. Not totally, not yet. So I'm bringing a little balance and retrospect to this thread because I feel it is filled with so much caution that it became a deterrent. 😔

And reactive. Okay sure reactive. It is fuel for the fire that drives people to do all the other things you listed. It keeps the outrage and issues in the forefront of American consciencness. Reminds people "keep fighting, you're not alone."

Look, I am one of those Americans who acknowledge we fucked up freely AND I still think it's important to keep going and keep fighting. It's not over till it's over. Truth matters, yes, and how you respond to it matters too. Don't put people down for taking a proactive stance in the face of despair.

I'm reading and what I see is: you rolling your eyes, calling people profoundly stupid for protesting, being angry that ppl didn't do enough when they had the chance. The anger is very valid. The rest is sad. Not all of us are blind to our failures. But we think it's still worth it to take action.

Leading up to the protest, I was feeling wary like others in the comment threads and I almost didn't go. In the end, I'm glad I did. But it's a hard decision to make, and I don't fault anyone for not going. My philosophy is do what you can, when you can, while you still can.

We’re focused on feeding our kids.

Investing in our schools.

Making sure child care is affordable.

Regardless of the chaos unfolding in Washington, we’re making Minnesota the best state for kids to grow up.

There were definitely some comments out there that were pretty discouraging in tone. Advise/exercise caution, sure. But also, when that becomes the overwhelming narrative, it acts as a deterrent, it becomes counter productive. It almost deterred me. I almost didn't go. And so many others too. 😔
