With a huge, detailed digital painting these are hard to find...it feels wierd to stop halfway through the shading, for example.

But with animation, it's obvious. Do one frame, then another, then another. Shade one frame, then another, then another. Color one frame, and so on.

It's so nice.

I should do more animation.

One of my issues in making art has been finding a good way to break big, complex pieces down into manageable chunks with good 'start' and 'stop' points - I've found this is a great way to pace myself and avoid burnout.

I foolishly decided to dabble in hand drawn animation, starting with that iconic unit of the discipline, the 8 frame Williams Walk Cycle.

I love models with long, flowing cloaks. When you use 'soft' shading and highlighting it works best on surfaces with soft, rolling contours.

The fact that it makes for bangin' shading and draping practice for me is a nice bonus - hope you don't mind!
