Like "Well, you should fight for labor or disability rights there" you refuse to help in forming any lefty art-advocacy orgs because you think creative workers are parasites and you don't do shit on disability! Maybe fix that first!
/rant
Like I get where they're coming from and sympathize with also hating the mini-landlord complex Online Creatives have, but you're Not Helping, most of the shouty artists are poor and disabled and can't get any other work, and most Very Serious Marxists are not helping them in any material way!
As an aside, I really wish that Very Serious Marxist Leninists would stop punching down at a historically turbofucked creative class because Theory, that doesn't help in changing this.
That's a major obstacle to breaking through, burying the lede on "Big copyright is astroturfing the panic"
I blame RJ Palmer.
Well, and also the fact that online art is doing VERY BADLY at the moment, that allowed it to get mass-adoption, but Palmer's temper tantrum is what kickstarted that moral panic. God I hate him so much...
Yeah I think one way to divide the two is that honest populism is a simplification of the boring nerd policy white paper stuff down to a level digestible to the public, slopulism *starts* with the crowd pleasing claim and then policy is backfilled from that later, if ever.
I would also like the Democrats to stop just ceding the Republican framing of everything that matters
we can't be the party of "nothing matters except tax cuts" when teachers have to buy school supplies with their own money and no one under 40 will ever be able to buy a house

it feels like a lot of Dems are suddenly trying "we can run a robust social safety net by only taxing rich people and corporations" messaging and that is
a) not a great message, in that we should all contribute
b) not actually true, math-wise
It’s important to hear a senator saying this.

If you want to push back against platform censorship like what now happened with subscribestar, you need to call your reps and demand opposition to these bills/policies
Get family and friends involved. Explain the stakes in clear terms.
If you all live in Canada, please sign this petition immediately! Your rights will be screwed if you don’t do something about it.
"The KIDS Act is being used as a smokescreen for everything Big Tech lobbyist want, which is a national surveillance program where they can harvest the personal and private data of every American, with zero actual protections."
*Conservative parents. Only conservative parents get to decide how to raise their kids, per this court

Right-wing politicians spent the past three years using age-verification to block access to legal adult sites that a) ban deepfakes b) require consent and c) verify performer age.
All while pushing AV exemptions for right-aligned platforms like 4chan and X.
Take KOSA or SCREEN. These are big bills but there's almost no public polling on them. (There might be polling on a related issue, but their actual solution — the bill — is far more complicated.) Legislators are left guessing how their constituents might feel.
That's where calls come in.
I've done a lot of lobbying and a lot of activism. It seems stupid, it seems pointless, it seems ineffectual, but phone calls are one of the few things that legislative offices really pay attention to as a barometer for public opinion.
Call early and call often.
Conservative efforts to invalidate trans ID documents, coupled with age-verification laws, could block trans people large parts of the internet.
Platforms from Discord to Bluesky to adult sites are increasingly reliant on valid IDs for age-verification — and thus access.
Over and over we've heard from AV providers that no data is stored, and certainly not biometrics.
Spain's filing says this isn't true. Facial scans produce a "stored template" which is kept as long as the account is active.
Ohio legislators are using an antiporn statute to try to ban transgender content in schools.
HB 583 targets accuses two library databases of allowing access to "material harmful to minors," citing "a boy wearing girls clothes" as their example.
"Weaving together over a decade of research with interviews and narratives from those personally impacted by financial censorship, Transaction Denied reveals how financial exclusion has become a tool to pressure marginalized voices into silence."
‼️
Hard to overstate how nauseated I feel reading the Senator's objections and seeing them as "He's wasting your money, some soldiers might die committing war crimes, and they didn't have a plan" and not "They are killing thousands upon thousands of innocent people and children."
Really fucking funny trend online where people will like something untill someone visibly neurodiverent likes it, at which point they'll decide it's always sucked while relentlessly bullying that person.
And by funny I mean I want to break their knees with a baseball bat.
AOC came out swinging against age verification legislation and somehow the entire tech press seems to not have noticed?
Someone should ask supposed progressives like @warren.senate.gov why they keep supporting legislation like this that is going to get trans people killed www.erininthemorning.com/p/op-ed-with...
