Like "Well, you should fight for labor or disability rights there" you refuse to help in forming any lefty art-advocacy orgs because you think creative workers are parasites and you don't do shit on disability! Maybe fix that first!

Like I get where they're coming from and sympathize with also hating the mini-landlord complex Online Creatives have, but you're Not Helping, most of the shouty artists are poor and disabled and can't get any other work, and most Very Serious Marxists are not helping them in any material way!

As an aside, I really wish that Very Serious Marxist Leninists would stop punching down at a historically turbofucked creative class because Theory, that doesn't help in changing this.

That's a major obstacle to breaking through, burying the lede on "Big copyright is astroturfing the panic"

I blame RJ Palmer.

Well, and also the fact that online art is doing VERY BADLY at the moment, that allowed it to get mass-adoption, but Palmer's temper tantrum is what kickstarted that moral panic. God I hate him so much...

Yeah I think one way to divide the two is that honest populism is a simplification of the boring nerd policy white paper stuff down to a level digestible to the public, slopulism *starts* with the crowd pleasing claim and then policy is backfilled from that later, if ever.

I would also like the Democrats to stop just ceding the Republican framing of everything that matters

we can't be the party of "nothing matters except tax cuts" when teachers have to buy school supplies with their own money and no one under 40 will ever be able to buy a house

a small 5 by 4 maybe sized paint pallet covered in bottle caps of metal and plastic. each various queer flags, an anime eye, halloween and abstract others. one is anti artificial intelligence branded.

there are 16 bottle caps here ready to be turned into pins , keychains or other jewelery trinkets. hand painted with acrylic and glow paint.

Completely forgot how many of these bottle caps I had painted... this is like 1/4th of them LMAO

Gotta still clear coat and add the pin backings to em! Hope people love these as much as I do xD

digital art, two mermaid creature designs

left side- a ghoulish female humanoid angular fish thing. dark pale green translucent skin, organs and bones visible under. Face of huge glowing eyes and a jaw filled with nail like teeth sticking out. Large fin ears and a glowing antenna on it's forehead. Claw fin hands.

Right side- a pastel pink and purple slime mermaid, a lava lamp liquid body. soft round plump body, long pink hair melting. glowing blue eye and mouth. Hair covers the other eye, the glow does not go through the thick goopy hair.

it feels like a lot of Dems are suddenly trying "we can run a robust social safety net by only taxing rich people and corporations" messaging and that is

a) not a great message, in that we should all contribute

b) not actually true, math-wise

If you want to push back against platform censorship like what now happened with subscribestar, you need to call your reps and demand opposition to these bills/policies

Get family and friends involved. Explain the stakes in clear terms.

The Supreme Court is right. Parents get to decide how to raise their kids.
The government of California doesn’t supersede parental rights. Even at school.

This 4chan Board Became a Factory for Explicit AI ‘Deepfakes.’ Nobody Is Stopping It. - Open Measures Open Measures builds accessible and transparent products to contextualize the spread of harmful online information that impacts public discourse and global events.

Right-wing politicians spent the past three years using age-verification to block access to legal adult sites that a) ban deepfakes b) require consent and c) verify performer age.

All while pushing AV exemptions for right-aligned platforms like 4chan and X.

Take KOSA or SCREEN. These are big bills but there's almost no public polling on them. (There might be polling on a related issue, but their actual solution — the bill — is far more complicated.) Legislators are left guessing how their constituents might feel.

That's where calls come in.

I've done a lot of lobbying and a lot of activism. It seems stupid, it seems pointless, it seems ineffectual, but phone calls are one of the few things that legislative offices really pay attention to as a barometer for public opinion.

Call early and call often.

‘Age Verification’ could force trans people to out themselves to use the internet Automated online ID checking systems add new potential dangers to having a mismatching ID.

Conservative efforts to invalidate trans ID documents, coupled with age-verification laws, could block trans people large parts of the internet.

Platforms from Discord to Bluesky to adult sites are increasingly reliant on valid IDs for age-verification — and thus access.

The facial scan produces a biometric template stored while the account is active. When users modify their PIN or recover their account, the app captures a new facial scan and compares it against the stored template - a 1:1 matching operation. According to the authority, "despite repeatedly asserting - both during account creation and in the privacy policy - that the purpose of processing the biometric facial pattern is to guarantee user identification, Yoti does not consider itself to be processing special category personal data," a position the authority characterised as reflecting "particular negligence."
The fine for this infringement was set at €500,000. Post image

Over and over we've heard from AV providers that no data is stored, and certainly not biometrics.

Spain's filing says this isn't true. Facial scans produce a "stored template" which is kept as long as the account is active.

Hard to overstate how nauseated I feel reading the Senator's objections and seeing them as "He's wasting your money, some soldiers might die committing war crimes, and they didn't have a plan" and not "They are killing thousands upon thousands of innocent people and children."

Really fucking funny trend online where people will like something untill someone visibly neurodiverent likes it, at which point they'll decide it's always sucked while relentlessly bullying that person.

And by funny I mean I want to break their knees with a baseball bat.
