Implying Black, male, disabled, and young children (the populations disproportionate discipline data prove to be vulnerable to adultβs exclusionary practices) are βstudents who should have been suspended or expelledβ is repulsive and racist. Changing this accountability sucks.

The public really needs to understand this. Every university system in the world rests on public funding, there has never been an alternative model at any time in history.
We have universities for literally the same reason that we have roads and armies.

(Also non-scientists, and scientists without federal funding! But the more of us who can directly speak to the impacts of these freezes the better)
I think some people hear βgrantsβ and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.
βPausingβ grants means people donβt eat.
I am an early career researcher who just got their first TT job days before the inauguration. I thought I was trained well for my career. However, I wasnβt trained in how to support public education while the government is actively trying to get rid of public education.
