Congrats to @allanaschooley.bsky.social et al. @jobdekker.bsky.social on this beautiful paper, using a very elegant experimental system, to discover a chromosome intrinsic 3D genome folding program and microcompartmentalization of CREs at mitotic exit:
🚨Our story is published! Same bones but + dissection of MERVL’s role integrating signals from #ZGA factors, & + about pathological DUX4 activation of NOXA #TEsky. Thanks to all revs for their helpful comments improving the ms. Even #rev3 - until they ghosted us 😜

Be sure to also check out the great paper from @andersshansen.bsky.social and colleagues where they discover microcompartments on mitotic chromosomes using Region Capture Micro-C. Exciting times for those interested in chromosome conformation during cell division!

Our new study supports that aging begins in the early stages of embryo development, and not only in adulthood @canalugr canal.ugr.es/noticia/a-ne...
When and how do we start aging? Our recent work, led by Amador Gallardo, suggests that aberrant expression of ancient viral remnants in our genome—already during embryonic development—may induce aging in adults. 😮https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-025-63778-4.pdf

“From a different angle, our study also supports that BMAL1 regulates the transition from the totipotent to the pluripotent state during early development, by facilitating MERVL transposon repression and the downstream 3D organization and function of the genome.”
Building on a previous report from the Fitzgerald lab showing that loss of Bmal1 during embryogenesis accelerates aging in adulthood, our findings support the idea that preserving the epigenome during embryogenesis is crucial to slow the pace of aging later in life.
