09.07.2025 17:16 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Donβt buy the course. Donβt go on the retreat. (Unless you can easily afford it). These things probably wonβt change your life!
26.06.2025 12:04 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sick of the βtoo many booksβ argument. Has anyone actually been so flooded by low quality books that they couldnβt find something decent to read? Is βthe infinite flood of contentβ an actual issue or just another way of denigrating indie pub?
27.05.2025 17:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0You have to build a brand. But mostly you just read and write books. Do you just write about writing? Or maybe write about reading? But youβre not a book reviewer. Youβre an author. How do you generate content that isnβt just βbuy my courseβ slop?
18.05.2025 21:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I donβt want to write about writing! I donβt want to talk about marketing! I donβt want to accumulate a list of other writers! I want to find readers!!
18.05.2025 19:14 β π 12 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I wonder how many people are quietly making a living self publishing books. Like my author name isnβt huge, but Iβve been in the top100 overall a bunch. I doubt most people would recognize my name, but I have an audience. I feel like there are way more authors like that right now.
15.05.2025 11:18 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Nope
30.04.2025 22:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I swear every mafia romance starts at a funeral. Why are we doing that?????
30.04.2025 21:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I canβt remember the last time I wanted to quit a book at like 100 pages, forced myself to finish it, and felt good about that choice. Basically never happens! If the first act/20% isnβt for me, the rest almost definitely wonβt be.
25.04.2025 01:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0ALSO, just because I DNF a book does NOT mean I think itβs a βbad book.β I just think itβs not working for me, and maybe I can say why and have decent points, but who cares? My 5 star is your DNF. Books, man.
25.04.2025 01:05 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can feel myself on the edge of quitting another book. The sweet relief of accepting this book is not for meβ¦ and putting it down. Nothing better. DNF life forever.
25.04.2025 01:03 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Itβs honestly amazing to me that poetry presses/magazines/etc survive at all. But I feel like the writing world in general is full of stuff like book prize scamsβlittle ways aspiring authors are used to subsidize the industry.
16.04.2025 13:13 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I totally agree. I think βaccessibleβ is a good goal and doesnβt have to mean one particular form of narrative poetry. Itβs more people are intimidated, like you said. As if poetry was βtoo hardβ and canβt actually be fun (which it definitely is).
16.04.2025 13:11 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The incentives in the poetry world are like, write poems to impress this tiny cohort of editors and other writers. Hope someone reads your work maybe! Iβm honestly sad that poetry doesnβt leak into my world more often. Because it basically never does! I have to actively seek it out (and still do).
16.04.2025 11:00 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 1 π 1I have an MFA in poetry. Writing poetry was a huge part of my life and all the internet journals and publishers felt so important. Now Iβve been out of the poetry world for over a decadeβ¦ and itβs like all of that disappeared. It faded away. Poetry is just buried. Itβs gone. Itβs so small!
16.04.2025 10:58 β π 17 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0Getting into the flow of a first person shooter feels a lot like the flow of a 5,000 word day deep into the first hour of typing or the flow of rep 5/8 in a tough speed workout and thatβs maybe why I like all of those things (but donβt game anymore).
08.04.2025 00:41 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dear Diary, should I write some romantasy??
31.03.2025 02:04 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0KDP and indie pub is such a good deal for everyone. Authors have new ways to publish and to make an actual living. Trad can swoop in and sign the super successful outliers. Amazon gets endless cheap content. Readers get more books theyβd otherwise never see.
27.03.2025 13:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There is so much good stuff out there. Why struggle through something you donβt like? That whole βI HAVE to finishβ thing is odd
25.03.2025 22:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nothing better than quitting a book. Hit 50% last night and tossed one aside. Best feeling in the world!
25.03.2025 15:07 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Working on becoming an anti hustle influencer. Look at my very average day! Awake at a normal time, regular exercise, a couple good hours of writing. Strive for just enough!
25.03.2025 13:23 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0How much harder do I need to work? How much more rank do I need before itβs good enough? Whatβs the point of writing books if all Iβm doing is worrying about KU rates and read through percentages?
24.03.2025 20:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Excavating layers of old photos and outdated reminders from the kitchen cork board like discovering lost civilizations
16.03.2025 16:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt think AI is going to replace writers, but I do think AI is going to make it more important for writers to be semi-public, if only to prove their humanity.
15.03.2025 01:49 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This basically means: no matter how good your book is, if you're not marketing it in a way that makes readers want to check it out, then nobody will bother opening it. Your cover gets them in. Your book makes them fans.
12.03.2025 16:06 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When I started indie publishing, I found a forum thread that got me started. The first post included one of the most important lessons any indie can learn: YOUR COVER IS AS IMPORTANT AS YOUR BOOK.
12.03.2025 16:03 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Other peopleβs TVs are the most complicated things in the world. Iβd rather do some obscene physics trash than have to turn your TV on and find the cable box. No thanks
07.03.2025 02:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Consistency is more important than almost anything else in a writing career. That doesnβt mean writing every dayβbut it does mean learning how you can create books and stories readers enjoy on a regular basis.
01.01.2025 23:47 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Itβd be cool if Amazon told us this stuff. Imagine knowing 17% of readers quit reading after a specific chapter!!!
06.03.2025 14:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Authors have guessed forever that reviews play a part in algo ranks. They probably donβt! But maybe indirectly if good reviews = higher read through and sell through rates. You know Amazon has this data!
Iβd give this theory a 40% confidence rating but itβs always good to write good books!
