I've been a cyclist for 20+ years. Crashes happen for numerous reasons: a slick corner, an animal running out in front of you, another cyclist going down in front of you, etc. I'd rather be wearing a helmet than not.

This is great! I love the concept. Just one small suggestion: please wear helmets, everyone.

DeepSeek made some significant software improvements, but I’m skeptical they trained this model on less than $6m. Regardless, these improvements will drive down costs. That’s never a bad thing — unless you’re a Nvidia investor.

Washington Post article headline: 'OpenAI and other tech titans worked on Stargate deal months before Trump won' with subheadline about political risks and Musk's criticism. Dated January 24, 2025.

I wonder if they made that public announcement once R1 was released because they wanted to get in front of the eventual panic. OpenAI knew it would soon be a problem. And Project Stargate was in works before Trump won. Interesting timing. #DeepSeek #Tech

As a Bears fan, I find this reaction hilarious. I’d be thrilled to see the Bears make the playoffs every year and then lose their first game.

I read it more as the tech leaders worried about antitrust, sucking up to the new sheriff in town. Your take also makes sense.

Thank you for the recommendation! I will definitely look into it. I'm sure you have some fascinating stories from that career.

Hi, everyone! I'm looking for recommendations for biographies or memoirs. For context, one of my recent favorites is “Shoe Dog.” Thanks in advance! #BookSky

AccuWeather graph showing extensive cold temps across USA through 1/12/25.

Rare winter storm tracking from Kansas to Virginia: Starting Saturday night in CO, hitting STL Sunday AM, reaching DC by Sunday night. Some regions preparing for their heaviest snowfall in 10+ years. Subzero temps. This is NOT a typical winter weather system! #WinterStorm #news #climate

Take Part in Veganuary and You Might See Yourself Differently The ritual of giving up animal products for a month leads participants to see both meat and themselves in a different way, and could have lasting effects on people’s diets.

One-month trials like Veganuary are great - low commitment way to explore plant-based eating, improve health markers, and help the planet. Research shows most people maintain some changes. Give it a try! #health #diet

Electric Vehicle Charging Is Going to Get Political The incoming Trump administration has signaled its hostility toward EVs. Will the red-state/blue-state divide come for public charging?

A glimmer of hope for beginning 2025. EV charging buildout progresses across party lines. Texas, Utah, Kentucky among Republican states with active charging station projects. #GreenTech #Tech #Climate

AI data centers could be ‘distorting’ the US power grid | TechCrunch The proliferation of data centers aiming to meet the computational needs of AI could be bad news for the US power grid, according to a new report in

AI data centers creating power distortions in nearby residential areas. >50% of houses w/ worst power quality are w/i 20 miles of major data centers. With AI's volatile energy demands, this isn't just capacity - it's about grid stability. Old power infrastructure wasn't built for this.

Despite the challenges we face, this is a great time to be alive. I estimate that around 70% of Americans today enjoy a higher standard of living than John D. Rockefeller did, even though they have far less wealth. Let’s resist the urge to be pessimistic.
