Meet the Alaska Student Arrested for Eating an AI Art Exhibit A conversation with Graham Granger, whose combination of protest and performance art spread beyond campus. “AI chews up and spits out art made by other people.”

Hero.

“He was tearing them up and just shoving them in as fast as he could,” said Ali Martinez, a witness to the event. “Like when you see people in a hot-dog eating contest.”

I put a “Somebody loves me in Cleveland” tshirt in a white elephant exchange this holiday season, and family fighting ensued! A good problem to have 😆

A photo of the the front and back covers of the book “Hey, Al!” by Arthur Yorinks.

Ok I would be devastated to find out you never read this book as a child! There’s a similar birb on the back cover that always confused me as a kid 😆

A beautiful gray cat with striking green eyes stands outside on a wooden deck.

Here’s my beautiful Nancy, gone six years now. Miss those gorgeous green eyes! Don’t miss the cat dirt stuck in her luxurious fur 😹

When you were talking about vet care in London, I wondered why you might be there….

I piece t-shirts together just fine! No reinforcement first (though some really thin t-shirts might need it). A normal quilt sandwich with batting and another layer (usually a bed sheet) has worked really well for all my T-shirt quilts!

A photo collage of nine images. All nine photos feature a different quilt I made in 2025. The photo in the middle features me holding a quilt up.

My #artistvsartist this year! There were some upcycling and mending projects as well, but mostly t-shirt quilts! 🧶 #quiltsky

An art quilt hangs on a wood paneled wall. The quilt it made from t-shirts: white, black, and hand bleached. The blocks are improv Sawtooth Stars, in various states of explosion. Hundreds of red, metallic stitches hold the quilt together. There are sequins, beads, and pearls as added texture. The quilt is about 1’ x 3’ and it hangs from a bamboo rod by silver metal clips. The back of the quilt. I used a scrap of black fabric of unknown origin. The metallic, red stitches are obvious from this side. You can also see the metal rivets of the set pearls. I like this side, too. A side angle of the quilt. Many of the textural elements catch the light coming in through my basement window. A detailed shot of one of the stars, showing the variety of textural details. Metallic threads, sequins, seed beads, and set pearls. The diverse results of bleaching different black t-shirts is also apparent, with some deep orange, and others a barely faded brown.

It took a year, but I finished! This quilt was made for my friend who experienced a Bipolar 1 break that rocked our world. He’s doing well now, but there are still reverberations from that time. It was a reliable creative object to lean on throughout. More info in alt text about process! 🧶 #quiltsky

R. Crumb comic books are scattered across a table.

I was 16 working at a huge antique mall in the late 90’s when I grabbed these!
