What is Made in EU? And how can it help, or harm, future-fit economies?
Ahead of the expected publication of the Industrial Accelerator Act later this month, we’re using today’s #CleantechEU thread 🧵 to explore #MadeInEU 👇
Weakening rules risks loopholes & undermines climate integrity.
📦 Default values for #CBAM goods must reflect the highest-emission production route, not an average. Without preference for actual emissions, low-carbon producers abroad lose incentives.
Welcome back to the bi-weekly #CleanTechEU thread!🧵
Bellona has been working hard to find solutions to get the #CBAM right for the #climate & EU industry. In this thread, we will share the main points of our consultation response on the CBAM.

4️⃣ Embed system-level efficiency into planning and scenarios to cut waste, costs, dependencies & address scarcity. Complement grid expansion with efficiency of infrastructure to meet EU targets, all while respecting physical limits & system security.
Welcome back to the bi-weekly #CleanTechEU thread! 🧵
Today, we will explore the upcoming European Grids Package – a major opportunity for Europe to deliver the needed electricity grid infrastructure towards a timely and cost-efficient energy transition
Interestingly many of the calls in this letter were heeded by the EC budget proposal - now the Horizon has to be defended
Pacto #PYMESXCLIMA, promovido por @climatest.bsky.social, es una amplia red que tiene por objetivo crear un ecosistema de apoyo climático tanto a nivel local como sectorial.

FP10 must be:
1. ‘self-standing’ with a ring-fenced budget;
2. sufficiently funded for the challenges the EU faces, with stable priorities & a collaborative research component;
3. standalone yet closely linked to scale-up instruments such as the Competitiveness Fund, Innovation Fund and others
The needs for #innovation are clear:
1. A clear target for iRETs in the 2040 climate goal
2. Inclusion of iRETs in the upcoming EU Electrification Action Plan & the 2028–2034 R&I programme.
3. Technology-specific financial support at both EU & national level to bring demo projects to life
Other important news this week: innovation in the spotlight!
Just now, the EC published their guidance on renewables, particularly innovative technologies which have "important potential"

Our new research shows the barriers to unlocking financial flows are multi-level and vary vastly from one region to another.
Our method clusters EU regions on a spectrum of ‘electrification-readiness’. We identified 5 distinct regional profiles ranging from Very Low Barriers to Very High Barriers.

Super important to prevent greenwashing with a clear directive that lays out the terms
You may claim being green or you may decide not to do it.
But customers deserve respect.
We should honour their trust and ensure a reliable information support.
“What we know from the science is that unless we halve emissions by 2030, we’re not going to be able to get anywhere close to the Paris Agreement’s limit.” “Overshooting the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 °C target would be a very serious political failure.”
Very true.

Climate negotiators meet this week in Bonn for mid-year talks.
On the table are plans for more concrete mitigation and adaptation initiatives that can form the basis of countries' climate plans.

📢 The EU faces a significant climate investment gap: €340–477 billion annually through 2050. Half of this is unaccounted for in current budgets. We need smarter financial tools to bridge this divide.

➡️ Mandate environmental award criteria, using shadow pricing or minimum standards where appropriate.
➡️ Plan #energysystems alongside construction projects to ensure grid readiness

Welcome to the bi-weekly #CleanTechEU thread! 🧵This week we’re diving into Zero-Emission Construction Sites #ZECS.
Did you know the construction sector is a major, yet often overlooked, source of greenhouse gas #emissions and urban air #pollution in Europe?
🚨 Time to fix EU State Aid for clean tech!
9 civil society, research and cleantech organisations call on the 🇪🇺 Commission to rethink the draft Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF).🧵

Tony Blair Institute have released a report which is getting a lot of coverage in UK today
It says the drive for net zero emissions is flawed and some media outlets have gone to town
However it’s a bit odd
By odd, I mean there’s a lot of bollocks in it and shouldn't be taken seriously 🧵🧵
Since the year of the Paris Agreement on climate change, City of London banks have poured over $100bn into companies developing huge oil, gas & coal projects driving the climate past those intlly agreed temperature limits - with catastrophic global consequences

9/ 🔄 Efficiency in funding isn't just about saving money—it's about accelerating the deployment of mature clean assets, preventing waste, and maximizing impact. FIaaS is a step in the right direction.
www.climatestrategy.es/press/Indust...
8/ 🏦 FIaaS compartments can be activated with EU-sourced funds, providing flexibility and control to Member States while ensuring alignment with EU goals.
7/ 📈 InvestEU's success shows the power of leveraging EU funds. FIaaS builds on this, enabling Member States to design tailored financing schemes for clean asset deployment.
6/ 🔧 FIaaS offers administrative simplicity: EU-led design and reporting, with local tailoring by Member States. This ensures efficient deployment of funds where they're needed most.
5/ 📊 Public funding remains crucial: up to 70% in agriculture and 40% in building sectors. Strategic public-private partnerships are key to achieving our climate goals.
