Also! I don’t like the amount of harassment I’ve had to deal with on public transport, I don’t like feeling like I can’t have a snack if I need one without somebody getting on my case, and I like being able to sit down. 🤷🏻♀️
I am very pro public transit, but I’m much more likely to use it when I live in a city that offers transfers between buses and trains, offers cheaper combo tickets or daily tickets, and has working bathrooms/escalators/elevators.
If I had taken public transit, it would’ve taken twice that long and that’s if every bus and train ran on time. I would also have had to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs while my ulcer screamed because the escalators don’t always work. And then I would’ve had to do it again going home.
Today, I had an event at the local library. I have a healing ulcer so I needed to maximize how much time I had at home resting before I left. I was able to get to my event in 20 minutes, and the library had a spare spot for me. I was able to attend my event because I was able to drive.
Hi! I am a real, not imaginary disabled person who does not often take public transportation despite supporting it in theory. Why? Well, because it’s pretty expensive, it’s still requires a lot of walking that I can’t do on bad chronic pain days, and nobody wears masks anymore. I need my car. 🤷🏻♀️

i am talking of course about a professional situation i am currently in, but this applies all over the board. white dudes often have the social capital to shift the behavior of other white dudes, but prefer not to use it because it risks embarrassing another white dude and goes against the code
here's one way social change happens: white dudes actually speak up and check other white dudes, even if it means burning social capital. this is most effective when white dudes invest in learning effective communication techniques and put the need to intervene above their own desire to stay comfy
