Staff have been considerably underpaid for years and QMUL, together with the other employers in the sector, is consistently failing to make acceptable adjustments.” “The workload model feels broken. I have never had a job where I have had so much work, or felt that my workload was so unmanageable.” “There have been a few restructures happening in the last few years and there has been an abundance of temporary contracts, which leave employees very vulnerable.” “There has been a growing disregard for the proper processes at this institution. This creates friction and additional work for colleagues in PS, which makes me feel like our work is not adequately valued.” “Staff in non-academic roles are heavily impacted by the issues raised in this dispute. Compounded during the pandemic, workload has reached unmanageable levels, which is contributing not only to poor staff wellbeing

Professional Services staff are critical to delivering university services but are consistently undervalued. Now, they are reaching breaking point, and more and more staff are speaking out. This strike is your chance to join them and say enough is enough. UCU is not just a lecturers’ union. We have members across Professional Services, from IT, to the Library, to Marketing and Comms, to Registry, to Advice and Counselling, and Student Services. If the strikes win, everyone at Queen Mary will benefit, especially the lowest paid.

Given the mass-exit of colleagues via voluntary severance this Summer, the workload of Professional Service colleagues is about to get even worse, despite already being unmanageable.

So just a reminder that ucu isn't just a 'lecturers' union'.
