i either have the choice of riding on the smoother pavement half, putting me closer to 40mph cars with no separation besides a white line, or riding on the asphalt half, which is bumpy and worrying close to the curb where i might scrape my tires and die.

it's right on the edge of the road and is half paved street and half concrete, meaning there's an awkward half-inch bump right down the middle that means it's impossible to get a ride that doesn't constantly make me feel like I'm about to die.
