Sounds like high turnout in the by election. If it beats turnout from the last general (46.8%) it will be the first time that's happened in 40 years.

Thanks @colmocinneide.bsky.social for your inspiring talk about the past, present, and future of equality law @unisouthampton.bsky.social. There has been positive feedback from the audience. Hopefully some will have gone away with renewed resolve to shape that future. #equality #law #annual #lecture

Met apologises to Commons speaker for sharing tipoff with Mandelson’s lawyers Exclusive: Police meet Lindsay Hoyle to explain error after Hoyle shared tip that Mandelson planned to flee UK

It is very funny how Mandelson’s fury over his arrest has led to the Met apologising profusely, but to someone else entirely.

I'd say contact the publisher's ethics team (or go via the editors), e.g. retractionwatch.com/2025/12/02/f... (editors and reviewers watch out for things but things can slip through)

Reducing the 80,000 backlog of cases needs action now - not 2027/2028 as is the necessity of primary legislation to reduce jury trials.
Previously I’ve referred to IFG findings:a single Judge trial will save less than 2% of court time (if estimate of a Judge only trial being 20% quicker is correct)

Around the world, resurgent authoritarianism, attacks on multilateralism, and intensified culture wars over gender, sexuality, migration and “traditional values” have made the terrain of equality and non-discrimination both more volatile and more central to contemporary politics as we meet the new year. Against this backdrop, the articles gathered in this first issue of 2026 of the International Journal of Discrimination and the Law interrogate how international human rights standards on education, gender-based violence, religious family law, disability, and intersectional discrimination are translated, resisted, or re-imagined in specific legal orders across Europe, Africa and Asia. Together they demonstrate the very real contest over equality norms taking place at all levels, internationally and on the ground, in schools, courts, ministries and local communities that decide whose rights matter, and on what terms.

The missing line on this chart is the growing value of the national minimum wage. Sustained policy action means that very low pay is now illegal, and that has an impact on the aggregate graduate premium.

Tonight feels v much like June 2009 when James Purnell quit the Brown cabinet saying Brown was going to lose the election, & everyone thought it was the start of a coup. (Including me, who was on a family holiday & cut it short to go back to the office, in order for nothing to actually happen)

There’s a trend among recent PMs of having a poor relationship with and/or not really understanding what their backbenchers’ expectations are and how they view their role (and how that seems to have shifted among backbenchers of all parties in recent years)
