the damndest thing about music production is that I can't watch a show while working
I gotta hear the sounds and arceus help me if they aren't the correct sounds

O H i do wish more was done to make the NPCs freak out over the Eternal Night instead of just saying the same things

it would have been nice but again. maybe they didn't have the budget or manpower to do it.

This thread is mostly done though I might update it if/when I fight the secret superboss, which i hear is full of Bullshit

Am i going to churn Octopath 2 in my brain for a good long while? Yeah

Am I going to play Octopath 0? Maybe? I hope they improve the writing. The 8 character battle they showed also seemed a bit questionable to me bc the switch to 8 people was at a Hype moment and doing it normally now kind of. cheapens the novelty

Am I going to play Octopath 1? I don't think so, I read a few things about it and heard that the gameplay and writing in 2 is way cleaner and I'm not sure i want to endure a downgrade

I think what they did right was: atmosphere. The environments are gorgeous, music is beautiful, the little particle effects tie in the (literal) atmosphere of the world together, the NPCs have their own little stories, atmospheric audio is great, the little NPCs walking about

also WHY CAN'T I LET THE GAME RUN IN ANOTHER WINDOW (this is particularly the reason why i had to dump so much time into the game alone)

Plus I'm not a person who attracts game bugs but there were quite a few to contend with, like game speed bugs when I tab out, voice volume issues, and there was another bug where i spawned on land but in a boat (fortunately it was easily fixable)

It's not a good sign when i can safely skip through half of agnea's story without feeling like i missed anything vital

I do wish the writing and localization were a bit better, some bits were written Super Good and others were just meh
the inconsistency makes me think that they didn't have enough time or budget to iron out all the kinks

And then the interest just kept ramping up (Throne's path was an Experience) until i triggered endgame and i had to sit down and marathon the whole thing for 3 hours because holy shit

Combat was really good though and it scratched my brain just right (i wish there were repels like in pokemon to make boss runbacks a little more bearable lmao)

I also gravitate towards darker stories, so being blasted by the sheer optimism of this one was a bit blinding
it's not a bad thing, that's the entire point of the Light Overcoming Dark thing and I think it was executed fairly well, i just like a slightly different flavor, PARTITIO

Like it starts off with a lot of Completely Normal JRPG tropes, like Hikari being the sane prince in a family of fuckwads, and ochette being the island hunter/protector of the tribe, which was a bit of a struggle because I like my stories with a little bite and novelty yknow?

Honestly I started playing Octopath for research purposes (for a future project), and then it kind of sucked me in as I played, though I could still see some roughness in the quality here and there

Game done! In roughly 70 hours!! Yay that was an experience

Guys this doesn't have to be goodbye forever right

gonna do the epilogue tomorrow

Also juggling all 8 travelers was a BLAST (but mostly l loved watching castti heal and buff 8 PEOPLE)
