Next week, these students will be among the youngest at their family parties.
Theyβll sit at the kidsβ table, theyβll squirm, wander, and go play in the family room.
But today, they held their own with the grownups
And threw a party any host would be proud of.
As fall turns to winter, third grade is wrapping up their study of the Taino people, who thrived in the Caribbean in the centuries before Columbus arrived.
Here, a third grader retells a favorite myth, by way of explaining the striking pumpkins that he and his classmates drew.
Sometimes recycling the gifts of nature looks like smashed pumpkins.
Sometimes it looks like gently choosing delicate leaves, placing them on a banner of silk, covering them with blanket soaked in madder root and wrapping it all up in hopes of making a scarf as a gift for someone you love.
Today is Ruby Bridges Day, the sixty-fifth anniversary of Ruby Bridges' first walk to her new school.
She was 6 years old, escorted by law enforcement through a jeering crowd who wanted to keep the school segregated.

When thereβs something that students are excited about, Gordon teachers are smart enough to lean into it.
In the weeks ahead, look for more skeletons in the classrooms, as well as spiders, howling wolves and even a few ghosts.
