Who could have… 🤦♀️
“The act of writing is an act of optimism. You would not take the trouble to do it if you felt that it didn't matter.”
Edward Albee, born on this day in 1928
They either didn't know Iran would shut down the Strait of Hormuz or they knew and didn't have a plan.
Either way - just totally clear they don't give a damn about what this war means for hardworking Americans.
The better plan to lower gas prices is to
END
THE
WAR.
There is a reason every other president refused Bibi’s invitation to start a regional war. Trump was the only one dumb enough to take the bait.
We Did(n’t) It!
There it is.
Trump’s “Mission Accomplished” moment.
Who could possibly have foreseen that war on Iran would (a) make Iran retaliate by closing the strait of Hormuz, which (b) could disrupt world oil markets, enriching Russia and penalizing most everyone else?
Who, indeed, except EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER THOUGHT FOR ONE MINUTE about the situation.
Seems like it was a bad idea to put a sociopathic megalomaniac in charge of the most powerful military in human history
Even Republicans are saying it now
The split within Trump's voting base over Iran is very real.
Media figures whose income depends on agreeing with dear leader are still onboard publicly, but at the grassroots level, the tentative Trump voter is not into foreign wars and deporting their honest neighbors.
The Republicans and the press successfully sent Bush 43 down the memory hole. We can't let that happen with Trump. Roosevelt and Trump reminded voters of Hoover and the Depression through at least 1948. That should be our template.
we remain firmly on track for 'republican president leaves the country an omnishambles, next democratic president is punished for not cleaning it up fast enough'
Shawn Harris is unlikely to win the runoff, but Democrats should be very happy to see a 17% overperformance in a Trump +37 district.
That kind of swing in November would decimate the GOP and deliver Democrats a Senate majority.
The problem for Cornyn is that Republicans only care about Democratic scandals and affairs.
You can have the best armed forces in the history of the world, but if you are an incompetent criminal without a plan, you can still lose a war, and rather quickly.
Trump's 38% approval, 57% disapproval is BAD, but even scarier for GOP? Americans are twice as likely to STRONGLY DISAPPROVE (50%) than strongly approve (27%).
He's already -23 on the economy & gas prices are still rising.
No wonder House & Senate GOP are running for the exits in record numbers.

"First of all, realize that it's very hard, and that writing is a grueling and lonely business and, unless you are extremely lucky, badly paid as well. You had better really, really, really want to do it. Next, you have to write something."
Douglas Adams, born on this day in 1952
It's notable how weak the case for a "realignment" or, for that matter, that the Trump campaign gained significant votes from culture-war issues, really was. It was based on wishful thinking by Trump-aligned commentators and tunnel-vision data analysis by others.
Who knew a war in the Middle East would be complicated and present myriad unexpected challenges?
I've been struggling with how to express my dismay at the war coverage by our top newsrooms, and how it dances around the central fact that Trump is deranged and unfit to command. I finally wrote something. Please read it. presswatchers.org/2026/03/the-...
Since Trump’s election:
🔵 Democrats have flipped 28 state legislative seats
🔴 Republicans have flipped 0
I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.
I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
1/ Here's what I can share:
Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I think the President of the United States should have to give Congress a clear, definitive explanation for why we’re starting a war, and then Congress should vote on whether or not we actually go to war. I feel like that’s what our founders intended.
Every single Republican elected official should be asked if they agree with Lindsey Graham that we should be sending our sons and daughters over to Iran to fight in this illegal war.
Trump is not the unfortunate victim of job “losses”; he is destroying jobs, especially manufacturing jobs. And in savaging medical and scientific grants and going to war with universities, Trump is further undercutting one of America’s greatest sources of long-term growth and productivity
Great point from @normornstein.bsky.social: Trump's demand that the GOP pass grotesque voter suppression measures is explicitly described by him as the way to win the midterms, implicitly admitting Trump's policies are failing.
On the pod Norm is so good on all this:

"The Iran war is complete, but I can’t rule out a draft or putting troops on the ground. Also, I’m going to take over the Strait of Hormuz, and my Secretary of War says it’s just the beginning. I also need to check in and see what Netanyahu says before I do anything." — Trump today, basically
Colossal suckers and gullible chumps, all of them
