It’s fascinating seeing online arguments that, at the root, come down to people not understanding the difference between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources.

Open Source: Deceptive Power or Collective Governance? | Open Source Pledge Collective governance prevents abuses of power β€” but it needs distributed funding in order to survive.

Here's my talk on why collective governance can prevent abusive power, and why distributed funding is necessary for collective governance. Thanks to @altctrl.org for inviting me, and to @fairpm.bsky.social for putting these ideas into practice. ❀️

FAIR Package Manager Project FAIR Package Manager Project has 8 repositories available. Follow their code on GitHub.

I installed the Fair Package Manager (@fairpm) on my personal site last night. I'm excited to say it worked flawlessly. A couple of plugins were updated from Fastly's servers, & a paid plugin updated from its servers as normal. I'm excited to see what else comes from this interesting development.

The issue we’re solving for is one where we have a reliance on a single repository right now, which isn’t entirely trustworthy. Meanwhile, third party repos are hard to use and not integrated into the system.

this is a pretty fun project!

it is basically a decentralized WordPress plugin package manager, using DID PLC as an identifier and store for package signing keys; and atproto for discovery/indexing of plugins in the ecosystem.

I frequently tell people the only reason to choose headless is if you need to scale people/teams - you have a natural break already, so headless helps codify it. Otherwise, it’s a waste.

You don't need headless WordPress. It's a waste of money.

Ben May runs The Code Company, one of the most successful WordPress agencies. And he spends a lot of time and effort talking people out of building headless WordPress projects.

IMO, quite the step back that React went from examples with β€œadd a container, add the script tags” to β€œinstall Next to get started instead of React” - React was great when it fit perfectly into incremental adoption. (One of the reasons we picked it for WordPress.)
