It might be safer in Low Traffic Areas, but not elsewhere. We have fewer children killed in traffic accidents because we have far fewer children playing outside, or travelling independently. Their freedom has been curtailed so that we (adults) can drive and park freely.

If cars can be driven into and back out of the city centre, just not through it, surely there would still be a lot of cars trips in Irish and British cities, and consequently still a need for separated bike lanes?

Just make ensure they have time, space and permission to play throughout their everyday lives. Oh, and enable them to walk and cycle for everyday journeys too.

I used to think that when global warming truly began to bite, deniers would face reality & we could act. Now I think it's more likely it will lead to a kind of fascism that will respond to global warming by, like, executing everyone who says global warming is real.

Where does “resilience” come from? From real life experience: encountering other people, solving problems, managing risk, facing challenges. All this children used to get from having the *freedom* to be outside together in their community. All this we have taken away through ignoring their needs.
