M51 from last night using a 100mm refractor, HEQ5 mount and canon 600d dslr. Processed in Siril and affinity photo. Two hours of data. M51 is the whirlpool galaxy which is interacting with a smaller companion and contains approx 100 billion stars. 23 million light years away

The Jolly Roger star cluster is a group of very young stars that were all formed from the same gas cloud. Over millions of years, they will spread out. The blue colour indicates they are very large hot stars. 100mm refractor and Canon 600d camera. #astro #astronomy #astrophotography

Formed in 1978 with just five members and meeting in members front rooms over the years the society has grown into a group of about fifty members who meet every Thursday evening.
The Society also own and runs its own observatory at nearby Hoober Stand.
