I'm actually working on a research project on what elements and compounds are required to boostrap up terrestrial biochemistry, and sure enough, many carbonaceous chondritic meteorites have most or all of the ingredients. It's not surprising that microbes set up shop on the samples so quickly

a small, wrinkly basset hound puppy with droopy eyes sits on a collection of fuzzy blankets. his brown ears are each the length of his body, one hanging on the right side of his head, the other delicately in his mouth as he chews on the corner of it. this is a game changer.

This is Fred. He just found out he can chew his own ear. There aren't actually any rules against it, he checked. 12/10

What, you want me to sell you the right to have AI scrape my work?

What's the offer?

$2,500 a book?

Okay, here's my counteroffer: Go fuck yourself

End of November always feels like that time of year when rapid fire passes start to happen, as people wind down their inboxes.

Friends, please donโ€™t let it get you down.

Be gentle on yourselves, and each other. Thereโ€™s a new year of art coming. โค๏ธ

โ€˜Weโ€™re absolutely making it too hardโ€™: The complexity of adult immunization delivery hinders v... The process of keeping track of which vaccines are recommended โ€” and avoiding paying for them out of pocket โ€” has grown increasingly convoluted.

โ€œUnless they are ill, many adults interact infrequently with the medical establishment. When they do, they may get care in a variety of places โ€” making it no one personโ€™s job to ensure they are up to date with their vaccinationsโ€ฆ adults often have to figure this stuff out themselvesโ€

Really? Thatโ€™s so messed up. Mine did, but it did take a while to find somewhere that had it in stock, and most places donโ€™t have the under 12 one still.

This is a scary fact. So few people are masking, too, which makes it so much worse for immune comprised people who a) are taking all the precautions and b) are still at a high risk.

There is a species of water beetle that regularly gets swallowed whole by frogs. And while thereโ€™s a lot of things you can do to keep from being eaten, once youโ€™re inside a frog, your options are severely limited. Generally you get digested. But this particular species of beetle said โ€œYou know, I bet thereโ€™s another way.โ€ And it started walking. In fact, it walked through the frogโ€™s digestive tract and out the back end.
This is 100% true, you can look it up. 19 out of 20 of these beetles will simply walk out of the frog, unharmed. It usually takes them about an hour, although one beetle speed-ran the frog in five minutes, which Iโ€™m sure was very exciting for the frog.
The moral of this story, if there is one, is that no matter how dark the situation, there is always a way through. And thereโ€™s always a light at the end of the frog.
