We've obviously filed our taxes all our lives and we've used this software before so clearly his social is there. Although I have a foreign sounding name, it doesn't 'sound like I could be Mexican' but yet...somehow we get this pop up about Ruben who has a Mexican sounding name...

This window pops up asking me about my spouse- who is Filipino and therefore whose name is Spanish in origin/spelling. It looks like they've decided he is a 'non-resident alien or dual-status alien' and ask if I want to treat him as a US Resident....

He is a US citizen, born in the US...

Story time- this feels suspect and nefarious. And to me looks like immigration is somehow in all of our tax software....

I use Turbo Tax and file jointly with my partner. Things usually just start off by having us confirm our basic info- names, socials, all that.
