Still not terribly happy with how this run turned out overall, but it's still a pretty sizable PB. A lot of fights went pretty poorly (plus a handful of tricks too), and my chapter 3 rng was quite literally the worst I've ever seen, but hey, the run continued alright at the very least.

Gotta mention the Guitar Hero games on DS. Holding the system sideways, with the GBA slot used for a peripheral for the guitar fret buttons, all brought together by using the stylus to strum each note. Worked surprisingly well, and easily my favorite use of everything unique about the system.

That being said, we’re all clowning on that guy because he said the system has like 4 good games, which is blatantly wrong, lol. Rare’s catalog alone is bigger than 4 games

The N64 100% gets a huge amount of nostalgia points overall, but the fact that the system got so few games in general (and limited third party support) gives it a huge disadvantage against systems with sheer volume behind them. I wonder how many more games we’d have gotten if the N64DD didn’t flop

From my brief look into the dev discord, looks like it’s just an Xbox issue on this song. So I hope you don’t get flash banged by pink at any point, lol

I genuinely have no idea what happened here, lol. I even restarted the game and it still displayed this pink screen and nothing else. Guess it’s just completely busted on Xbox and I won’t play it for now.

Fun fact, half of the reason I played Emerald as a kid was specifically so I could transfer the Nincada line into my Gen 4 games

From what I can tell, it’s definitely a lot better than it was at launch, but obviously not flawless, lol

Decided to finally start playing some Unbeatable (on Xbox) and somehow managed to softlock the game in less than 2 minutes. That’s impressive even for me, lol

Unfortunately, this PB was not an improvement on the execution front, but route changes and new tricks saved all of the time here instead. Should've saved like 7-8+ minutes with them, but oh well, lol

You are right in that emulation is definitely a factor in these conversations though. I just don’t agree with how much weight is put behind it every time a game doesn’t meet the arbitrary standards people have set.

I’d argue that I do see people complain about the prices of physical cartridges a lot, it just isn’t something that can easily be directed at a single target (Nintendo) and moreso is just a lament about the state of the retro game market. Which is why rereleases are a very good thing when done well.

Are these rereleases worth $20 each? Nope. Is the method of releasing them like this kinda scummy? For sure. Does unofficial emulation provide the same experience that playing these versions would? Absolutely not. Am I going to fault someone who buys these for that reason? Not really.

Emulation is not what most people want. There would be no reason to ever buy a rerelease if everybody always wanted to emulate for free. There’s many reasons why someone would want to buy an official rerelease that emulation does not address. It is a solution for some people, but it is not universal

It really rubs me the wrong way when the prominent response to a bad/overpriced rerelease is “lol, just emulate it.” If you wanted to emulate FRLG, nothing was stopping you from doing so for the last decade+. This does not help anybody who is unhappy here and does not address the actual problem.
