But AI alone will never truly know how to playfully tease us. Playfulness emerges from the margins. It grows in countercultures. It develops in strange intimacies, and is passed on through the generous impulses of tamed existential anxiety.
It moves us precisely because of its singularity.

Will generative AI allow more creators to tease better, to tease on a larger scale, to tease more widely? I hope so — and at the same time, I fear it, as long as the issues inherent to the creation and operation of these agents persist.

And I believe that’s precisely why we play: for the pleasure of feeling, through the game, another human being playfully teasing us.

We’re deeply rooted in a society of appearances. We’re easily impressed by things that are beautiful, “efficient,” and above all standardized.

We talk a lot about AI in video games, and how it’s going to replace us all, the creators. To some extent, that’s true. There will always be decision-makers who think they can make money by delegating to generative AIs tasks usually given to juniors — or even seniors. 🧵⏬

Wednesdays is nominated at IGF, San Francisco, and I've been hesitating since then to go for the ceremony in march. It's like an incredible opportunity but i'm scared something will happen at the airport customs, me being a trans non-US woman (coming from europe).

Mind the content warning (and I have rarely seen a better job at handling content warning in a game too), but it was definitively worth the tears. Subtle and honest and nuanced all at once, which is far from easy to achieve given the subject matter.
