I normally block all MAGA immediately but I made a mistake and got curious today and tried a conversation. My head hurts. I do not have the patience for this.

Once the reserves run out though - which we are already starting to see - access to those goods is gone until we replace the supply source. Sooooo….we have a PROBLEM. MAGA explodes at this point and tells me I’m crazy.

In this case it would be the reserves of goods that were purchased pre-tariff to offset the lack of distribution while we restore factories here (the time to rebuild being the slack)

Additionally, there’s a concept called a reserve to offset slack - the idea that you build in more of something to offset potential need during a time when you can’t readily get it and you are marching toward an immovable deadline.

I explain that theres this concept called dependency management and that - if I’m not hallucinating my 20 years of PM experience - making goods is fully dependent on functioning factories 🏭.

It takes months to rehab a factory so it’s ready for production soooo….we still have a supply problem. Might be shorter in duration if we’re quick with rehab but it’s still going to be a problem.

Now. MAGA keeps telling me not to worry about it because we’re going to supplant that supply shrinkage with USA made goods. I keep asking when the factories are going to be rehabbed then, because to my knowledge we don’t have an adequate supply of functional factories anymore.

So we now have fewer goods taking longer to get to a given destination and demand has not fallen in equal proportion. To me, this means we are inevitably going to run out of said goods sometime this summer if things continue as they are.

Ok. So 45-55 days to get goods to a port. Then they have to be picked, packed, and loaded onto a truck or a train to get them to their destinations. So realistically, the project manager in me is saying 60 days +/- a week depending on the coast, destination, and weather.

An aside..I seriously feel like I’m writing a 9th grade math problem “if a train 🚂 traveling 55mph” and I can still feel Mr. Davis’ 1x1 ruler across my then tiny 70 pound back when I got it wrong, so I’m nervous, but I’m going to soldier through this.

Can someone help me with a little logic disconnect I seem to be having with a MAGA tariff supporter? I feel like I’m going crazy. Ok. Shipping volume is DOWN. It takes at least 45 days to ship to the West Coast US from Asia and 55 days to the East Coast.
