In the UK where an ID card is needed to vote, the government aggressively reaches out to citizens to make sure they have their (free) ID card. Obviously there would be no such effort here

Somehow it’s worked without ’papers’ for centuries. Now there’s a voting crisis.

Two points:

Damn near everything is a crisis in the U.S. (ex A half time show).

These crises are wholly manufactured. (Voting fraud is one grain of sand in the Sahara).
