RESEARCH | Delusions in psychosis are shaped by emotions and language, an important new study from @unibirmingham.bsky.social, @unimelb.bsky.social, @york.ac.uk and Orygen has found – challenging old notions about these experiences.
More details + key findings: bit.ly/4pBBgg8
"To our knowledge, this is the first study using a phenomenologically informed, multi-method approach to situate the investigation of delusions in first-episode psychosis (across different themes and diagnoses) within a life-as-a-whole context."
So appreciated reading this

So glad to hear! Thank you!
Yes!!! Experience is not all immediately accessible! Psychiatry often forgets that...
"Part of the analysis focused on uncovering aspects of self-understanding and meaning making that operate outside of the participant's awareness and are hidden behind ambiguous or contradictory expressions, or within figurative expressions, including metaphor and metonymy"

Delighted that Rosa Ritunnano passed her viva without corrections! Her PhD on delusions is a marvel of interdisciplinary research. My favourite paper by Rosa so far is the one on Harry, the happiest man in the world. www.cambridge.org/core/journal... #philsky #philpsy #womeninphilosophy

Chatbots are explicitly being designed “to elicit intimacy and emotional engagement in order to increase our trust in and dependency on them” (me in Wired magazine 🤭). This designed intimacy combined with AI sycophancy creates serious risks for delusional thinking
