Have you seen that Greek myth book where it has blue text telling the "normal" story and then you put a blue sheet of acetate over the page and it reveals the same story from the woman's perspective?

Samian Ware and Society in Roman Britain and Beyond | Britannia | Cambridge Core Samian Ware and Society in Roman Britain and Beyond - Volume 42

I now can't find it - but there's some nice stuff here about perfect Samian ware being given to the gods as dedications but old/worn/repaired stuff being found in graves in Britain: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

I read an interesting thing recently about how there were communities where Samian ware was often mended, and others where it never was (because only pristine pieces were valued? Because they could easily get more? Who knows)

Philology. A field wide open for re-evaluation, fresh approaches, new theoretical perspectives, and breaking open new understandings of our texts. Actually.

Yes, the Scouts in the UK are now mixed and have been for a while. (Previously called Boy Scouts but not now.)

I got this very sad email today (as a parent of a member). It's terrible than an explicitly inclusive organisation has been pressured into this, and I hope it can be put right very, very soon.

Much obliged.

What kind of sadist puts the bibliography for both volumes at the end of volume 2. Which I do not have.

Old me: I remember the days when you could find things on the internet... Talk to real people... Check words were real...
Grandkids: Ok, grandma, if you say so

Can someone just gently remind me periodically not to say yes to any more things, thanks.

A day for people nerding out about the corn dole, I see. Excellent, carry on.

I've been in a fair few all-K/Catherine meetings recently, no word of a lie.

Happy St Katherine's Day to all scholars, librarians, and Katherines. May you win an argument against an annoying man today, in the true spirit of Katherine herself.

Journalists, why not reach out to some of the fine people in my replies to ask them how the British Library cyberattack of 2023 has had an impact on their research, their creative work, and their careers? This could make for a powerful piece revealing the human side to the damage this has done.

Yes, when I first learned about the very long fixed terms at the same interest rate/mortgage payment in the US, I was surprised! A rare example of the US socialising something more than everyone else, I guess.

I think it was @alexandraerin.com who said to the effect of:

"The purpose of a college essay is to prove understanding of the material, not to produce a college essay. There is no global shortage of college essays that needs to be automated."

The flowers are kind of fun in the daytime too.

That's the reason we made the effort this year - but hopefully something will take its place. It's a Durham institution now!
