Over the summer holidays I set my 2025 Yr 11 Bio students a task to show me their understanding of basic plant or animal structure. Typically I get the usual labelled diagram. I loved this one as it used cup lids as the membrane which I thought was such a creative idea. #vcebiology #iteachbiology

It can definitely be exhausting dealing with what seems like an increasing amount of students with anxiety and/or depression. Teacher self-care is vital. My go-to is to get out in nature. Would also recommend getting your Youth Mental First-Aid Certificate.

Playdoh and a well-kitted out craft tub is great for modelling concepts such as the plasma membrane, protein excretory pathway and meiosis. I use pipe cleaners for modelling protein synthesis. I generally get students to also annotate models to show understanding. #skyence

Celebrated 20 years of quality STEM outreach programs at GTAC today. Keynote was from the amazing Professor Jenny Graves, an Aussie Scientist who has researched the genomes of marsupials, sex chromosomes of different animals, and co-created a musical on the origin of life. #iteachbiology #GTAC

Hey Lorinda! You’ve arrived at a good time, the teaching crew have all moved over here in the last week or so and it’s a really cool atmosphere at the moment.

Water testing at different locations or depths (gas concentration, salinity, turbidity). Invertebrate sampling and classification, frog monitoring, bird counts. Just to name a few. Check data collection and privacy settings on Nature Apps before you share with students.

Our VCE Systems Engineering class had their battlebot tournament today. After a 3 minute warm-up, the trapdoor opens and the winning team for the round is the one that is able to push their opponents bot down the hole. #EduSky #VCESystemsEngineering

Such a great idea to flip the task and get the students actively analysing and editing. It also provides a scaffold for the weaker students.

Excited to use the new Seastar S50 telescope that we bought for the Science department. We can take it out during the day to take colour images of objects like the moon and sun. Will be great for Yr 7 and 10 Science as well as our 9/10 Astronomy elective. #EduSky #iteachscience
