Looking forward to delivering a workshop for the WOMBAT 2025 meeting this year. Great for beginners or those wanting a refresher. Come along and meet some great people! Its such a welcoming and friendly group at WOMBAT each year - I can't recommend it enough if you are into analytics, data sci, R

26.06.2025 23:54 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0βIf I could put it into a very few words, dear sir, I should say that our prevalent belief is in moderation. We inculcate the virtue of avoiding excesses of all kindsβeven including, if you will pardon the paradox, excess of virtue itself.β

Looking for a top notch data scientist? I'm available.
Not a night owl, but can be an antipodean code buddy using the magic of timezones :)
11.06.2025 05:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Hello π I will soon have capacity to take on an additional project or engagement. If you, or someone you know are ramping up their #datascience capability, get in touch.
Easiest method is DM, email, stopping me in the street, flagging me down in moving traffic, or failing that, telephone.
If SQL, R, Python and ChatGPT were people. This is how old they would be.

In my latest blog I test the use of {ellmer} with 'seed' values to improve reproducibility in LLM responses for data analysis. Based on helpful suggestions from my below post. www.deanmarchiori.com/posts/2025-0...

...people can and should decide themselves on how to describe what they do. This might be different to what their employers 'brand' them ( often arbitrary). And in any case, many of us end up taking on tasks that don't neatly fit into any definition - and this can be satisfying or necessary.
13.03.2025 21:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It sounds like a scientist of some sort. I think the specific job title would depend on the employer's industry and domain. Ive found in different industries, specific titles can be rich with meaning and be very different to equivalent activities in other fields.

Contrast this with an actual game changing technology like social media - people were fanging for accounts. Parents were asking their kids to help them get online. Nobody was forced onto social media, and charged an extra 40 bucks for privilege.

16.01.2025 03:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love the way academic papers in the mathematical sciences really ground you before confounding you. First line in the Introduction: "Many of us are familiar with fruits and vegetables"
12.01.2025 21:49 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A favourite restaurant of our family has a menu item which reads: "Chicken Parmigiana with chips and salad or vegetables" and the logical ambiguity is so good we talk about it every time we visit.
29.11.2024 04:24 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I was wondering this too. My skepticism of this was piqued with the phrase 'Existing-Policies Scenario'. Scenario based forecasts are very different to predictions. And lower end estimates of these might just be naive 'status-quo' or no-change scenarios.
19.11.2024 22:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As a data and analytics person embedded in the business, Iβm often involved in robust discussions with IT over access to software & data. It can be frustrating but @deanmarchiori.bsky.social has some great tips on dealing with this conundrum
