A union representing the lowest paid workers at Vallejo's school district rallied against mass layoffs yesterday.
The union has also filed labor charges against the district saying some planned layoffs violate the law.

Yes court records are public record and it's not illegal.
But just naming someone as being accused of a crime makes it so they often show up in a google search, could close off employment opportunities for them.
I don't think it's good to name a person accused of, not convicted of, a misdemeanor in a story--unless the person wields lots of power (political figure, big business owner),
especially when the person is Black -- the story's about how Black folks are treated unfairly in courts

Leadership at Vallejo's school district want to make a lot of infrastructural to school campuses, and might ask voters to extend an existing bond tax in order to do so.

Senior teacher have commited to the district long term, put a lot of work in, and deserve to be paid more than newer teachers.
But they are already being paid way more, and increasing that desparity doesn't feel fair, especially as we struggle to keep new teachers.
As a substitute teacher/OEA union member, I’m all for a strike if it occurs.
I’m not so into some of the details about what union leadership is asking for though, specifically asking for a higher percentage raise for senior compared to newer teachers... oaklandside.org/2026/02/24/o...
when i first moved to oakland in 2010 there was a place that sold ones for $2.50. there were a little small and sometimes i’d have to eat two to feel like i had a whole lunch, but still
I obtained text messages showing the Vallejo School appears to have violated the Brown act by discussing school closures in private before voting to close three schools in December.

People with Oakland's Police Department have stated repeatedly that the department does not work with ICE.
ICE agents are now slatted to work the Super Bowl. OPD had committed to sending officers to work the Super Bowl.
