It was sad to read about Charlotte Smith’s life. This chapter really emphasised the relevance of courtship novels. They told stories of the dangers of marrying for women. The 18th century legal system, rather than protect them, made women property and put them at the complete mercy of their husbands

Today is a good day!
I loved the chapter on Ann Radcliffe as well. What happened to her literary reputation was awful. When I read The Mysteries of Udolpho back in 2021, I thought it was just ok. Now I want to reread it, knowing more about Radcliffe, and having learnt a lot more about gothic literature since then.
Great video. I was introduced to kpop during gen 1 with boa and tvxq, and became a fan in gen 2.

Started watching the Hana-Kimi anime. I’m really enjoying it so far. I haven’t read the manga beyond maybe the first volume but I have watched the 2007 live action drama. Nakatsu was my favourite character and he’s great in the anime so far. Anime Izumi seems a lot nicer than in the drama.
I’m really enjoying the book so far. The chapter on Frances Burney was great. I didn’t know anything about her and never read any of her books. I loved learning about her strong desire to write, and the story of how her siblings helped her get published was wonderful! I have added Evelina to my tbr.
